Well why did you say that, rather than read the experts opinion on our Navy suggesting we need an ACC... or didnt you even read it!Black Orchid wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:19 pmWell you brought up aircraft carriersRedneck wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:13 pmWhere did I say that?Black Orchid wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:02 pmShow me where we are being requested to send aircraft carriers to the Strait of Hormuz?Redneck wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 4:50 pmHow many aircraft carriers do we have BO ???
https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/cleve ... tent-navy/Author : Richard Menhinick had an extensive career in the Royal Australian Navy, including commands at sea, ashore and on operations. He has also worked in strategic analysis and policy formulation.
"The navy of today and tomorrow is the same size in a ship sense as it was in 1976 when I joined, with about a dozen destroyers and frigates. However, strategically we’re significantly less effective vis-à-vis the region. The minister’s introduction to the 2016 defence white paper states that it ‘sets out the most ambitious plan to regenerate the Royal Australian Navy since the Second World War’. That sounds impressive, but it’s essentially misleading—in essence, we’re doing ship replacement. The navy remains too small and it’s a self-defence force, with limited power projection or ability to conduct sea control at distance.
We should be talking to the Australian public about strategic truths in a language they understand, explaining to them the new reality. To have self-reliance and self-help in this era requires a much larger, more potent navy. Fixed-wing, strike-capable aircraft carriers are required to project maritime air power via the short take-off, vertical landing version of the joint strike fighter. And we need perhaps twice the number of destroyers and frigates, so that we can really carry out aggressive operations against numerically larger air, surface and submarine threats, to dominate, deter and if necessary defeat. The submarines we’re getting are potentially good, but that’s an isolated area of improvement."

I agree with him in that our Navy is too small. I just don't see the relevance between that and sending a warship (of which we have more than 50) to the Strait of Hormuz.Redneck wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:22 pmWell why did you say that, rather than read the experts opinion on our Navy suggesting we need an ACC... or didnt you even read it!Black Orchid wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:19 pmWell you brought up aircraft carriersRedneck wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:13 pmWhere did I say that?Black Orchid wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:02 pmShow me where we are being requested to send aircraft carriers to the Strait of Hormuz?Redneck wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 4:50 pmHow many aircraft carriers do we have BO ???

The Strait is an international shipping lane and we cannot just allow Iran to take it.
If the Chinese decide to attack whilst our 1 ship is over there I am sure the yanks will come and save us. We are strategically essential to the US due to our location and they will not just let us go under even if it is only for their own interests.

Show me where we are being requested to send aircraft carriers to the Strait of Hormuz?

I am not discussing sending a warship to the gulf although I suspect we will due to the US alliance!
The topic is about our government(s) (Labor and now Liberal ) failing to keep our oil reserves at a satifactory level.
If the sh1t hits the fan dont rely on USA as they will be busy containing China and possibly Russia
Nah use the time of peace to prepare for war, use the IDF (Israel) as a good guide to having a strong military for a small country!

Just because I thought Labor's policies sucked doesn't mean I was 'suggesting' you vote Libs dumdum. I honestly don't know what planet you live on. Dearie dearie you. Yes both governments are remiss but it's hardly surprising. Neither give one damn about you or me. The US will supply us with oil (at what cost I don't know) and I thought that was in return for us sending a warship to the Persian Gulf which is why I mentioned it.Redneck wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:41 pmI think we are talking about two different things!Black Orchid wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:30 pmI agree with him in that our Navy is too small. If the US need to contain China they would do it from down here. We are safe. Stuff Russia they aren't a worry.

Re: Australia kisses US arse to secure oil
Personally, I don't think Australia should be involved in this.
Is Morrison aware of Russia's involvement....
(In a potentially catastrophic escalation of tensions in the Persian Gulf, Russia plans to use Iran’s ports in Bandar-e-Bushehr and Chabahar as forward military bases for warships and nuclear submarines, guarded by hundreds of Special Forces troops under the guise of ‘military advisers’, and an airbase near Bandar-e-Bushehr as a hub for 35 Sukhoi Su-57 fighter planes OilPrice.com has exclusively been told by senior sources close to the Iranian regime. The next round of joint military exercises in the Indian Ocean and the Strait of Hormuz will mark the onset of this in-situ military expansion in Iran, as the Russian ships involved will be allowed by Iran to use the facilities in Bandar-e-Bushehr and Chabahar. Depending on the practical strength of domestic and international reaction to this, these ships and Spetsntaz will remain in place and will be expanded in numbers over the next 50 years.....etc etc....)
I don't think that we should have to buy oil from the US in return for our "assistance"
in a conflict wholly and solely between Iran and the US...
Australia is the only member of the International Energy Agency that does not stockpile
the equivalent of 90 days net imports of oil.
The government has a lot of explaining to do over this issue.
What is the government doing to save the oil refining industry...
We have never been so energy insecure..yet our government gets away with it...
Perhaps we should have a Royal Commission into.......the competence of our government.....
In Sydney alone there ar 25,000 truck trips per week that transport our food supplies.
If you turn that supply off, your life stops....
And our government continues to get away with it......
Thanks to incompetent governments (past and present)…. Australia produces nothing...
But we still have our rocks.........
