Why are kids like they are today
I recall Professor Julius Sumner Miller saying many years ago "Why is it so..."
This topic might not create much interest as some will say...well...they are what they are....
That's how they are these days....
But why....
My simple answer is poor parenting....
I was the same when I was a kid...wanted what I couldn't afford...
My first car was an FJ Holden...I wanted to buy a more expensive Ford Zephyr...
My father said quite simply...you cant afford it...buy the FJ...
The comparison to the kids of today is they also want everything immediately...whether they can afford it or not..
So therefore, nothing is different....except the quality of parenting...
Why...
Parents just give up....
Why....
Because children are taught today to challenge everything...
Sounds like parents are caught in a crossfire....
And they just wave the white flag.....
I busted my arse from the day I left school...I did my forty years...etc etc...
Some kids...maybe a fair percentage of them... don't want to work...
Why...
When I first had my children, I immediately started studying on how to be a good parent....
These days, with both parents working to get by..is there any time to do that study...
Maybe not....
Its too hard...wave the white flag...
Who was it that said "the desire to do something easy weakens the desire to something hard..."
Me.....
The result.....
The kids of today...
Maybe parents arent on the same page..dad wants to kick his kid up the arse for doing something wrong...mum
says...you cant do that luv...soft...too soft.......
Take a bow parents.....take a bow....

Look to the parents and grandparents. Drugs also play a large part in bad parenting I would think.

Re: Why are kids like they are today
Both parents these days have to work full time to afford to live.
They are both always tired
They "manage" their kids remotely through daycare and electronic nannies.
Of course they are out of touch
Little if any human interaction.
Teachers who have no idea and pontificate all day about mentally ill morons.
How many kids actually talk to their parents?
How many have actually gone for a walk with their kids?
How many actually ask their kids how they are doing, and then listen?
My three kids talk to me every second day
We get together regularly
We cuddle and all sit together on the same lounge at the same time, usually all over each other.
My kids can confide in me about anything and always know that I will not judge, but support.
Love, that is the answer
We love each other, support each other and are there for each other.

I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

Re: Why are kids like they are today
My oldest is only 12 so a lot of time for things to go wrong, but so far, seems like she's very solid.
I'm the polar opposite of this.

My child arrived just the other day;
Came to the world in the usually way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay.
He learned to walk while I was away.
He was talkin' 'fore I knew it.
And as he grew he said,
"I'm gonna be like you, Dad.
You know I'm gonna be like you."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you comin' home ?"
"Son, I don't know when.
We'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."
Well, my son turned ten just the other day.
He said , "Thanks for the ball, Dad. Come on, let's play.
Could you teach me to throw ?" I said, "Not today.
I got a lot to do." He said, "That's okay."
And he walked away and he smiled and he said,
"You know,
I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you comin' home ?"
"Son, I don't know when.
We'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."
Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
"I'm proud of you. Could you sit for a while ?"
He shook his head and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please ?"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you comin' home ?"
"Son, I don't know when.
We'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."
I've long since retired, my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
"I'd like to see you, if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I could find the time.
You see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu,
But it's sure nice talkin' to you, Dad.
It's been sure nice talkin' to you."
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)

The 2,500-Year-Old History of Adults Blaming the Younger Generation.
Also
“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

Re: Why are kids like they are today
Just as government style and wealth go through cycles, so do generations. How many kids now are being raised in single parent homes compared to 50 years ago? Single parents, or 2 working parents don't have time to put their values into their kids. They pay a sitter or a daycare center to raise their kids. Leftists have taken over the education system and turned much of it into indoctrination centers. The government has taken the place of the father in supporting and teaching the kids and the government never does anything cost effectively or well.
There are good and bad people of every generation, but conditions now are not good for raising children into responsible adults who are willing to work for what they want. It takes an extra amount of effort on the part of the parents.

Re: Why are kids like they are today
I don't buy the argument that many kids are brought up by single parents and are disadvantaged because of this.
My wife passed away when my three sons were 11, 10 and 6..I had a full time job...I did everything with a little
help from my parents and relatives...
At the very same time my sister passed away and my brother in law raised his two kids by himself for a while..
he then re-married and had two more kids....they all grew up fine....
Parenting was difficult at times by myself. But we survived.....I always ensured that my kids were happy...and they were...
In my opinion it all boils down to the examples we set for our children and the respect we have for each other.
If the single parent is a drunken bum..or has no job..or sleeps around..etc etc...there is no respect and everything
turns to shit....
Parenting isn't hard...the parents make it hard by stuffing it up....or by not drawing on their parents for advice...
or by giving up...or by simply having no brains....

Re: Why are kids like they are today
Tex, I reckon it's better for kids to be raised in a single parent home than raised in house where the father (or mother) is a violent drunk and the other partner can't leave, as was the situation way back when.Texan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 5:52 amJust as government style and wealth go through cycles, so do generations.
