The artist behind a controversial mural in Bondi, in Sydney’s east, has responded to claims the art is offensive.
The taxpayer-funded mural on the Bondi beach seawall depicts 24 Australian Border Force officers with the phrase saying ‘not welcome to Bondi’.
Artist Luke Cornish, who’s twice been nominated for the Archibald Prize, has said the reaction to the mural has been “polarising”.
“On the positive side, its raising awareness for an incredibly important issue. On the negative, it’s a lot of people who don’t want to hear about it,” Cornish told 7NEWS.
“They see the mural as confronting and I get that.
“That’s the whole point. It is confronting. We need to be having these conversations.”
But the 39-year-old is unapologetic for his comment on Australia’s border protection system.

Interesting. I see nothing wrong with it being displayed where it is. What is your problem with it, Black Orchid? I'm curious...

I saw it probably a few minutes after the paint dried before I heard there was a hubub, and I thought it's too political for the location.
Anyway, we have a very generous refugee policy in Australia, country shoppers can get fucked.

So, say someone went to say, Malaysia instead, got themselves a false passport and a false visa and landed at an Australian airport and claimed Asylum, you'd let them in 'cause they didn't got to Indonesia and didn't meet a people smuggler in a Jakarta Maccas and didn't come here by boat?
Fuck...THEM and FUCK the mural.
Such a lovely attitude, Gordon. Is it merely the method of arrival that upsets you or something else?
