Man shot in head.

A man has been charged after allegedly shooting another man in the head in Sydney's south-west, in what police have described as a domestic-related incident.

Emergency services were called to Gurley Place at Bonnyrigg about 5:30pm last night, after reports of a shooting.

The 32-year-old was taken to Liverpool hospital in a serious condition, while a 65-year-old man was arrested and taken to Fairfield police station for questioning.

He was charged this morning with attempted murder and will appear at Liverpool Local Court today.

Six nursing staff within an aged care unit at Sydney's Blacktown hospital have been assaulted over the past three weeks, the union has revealed.

NSW Nurses and Midwives Association general secretary Brett Holmes said the nurses have been kicked, punched, choked and assaulted while working in the unit that cares for elderly patients with "disturbed" and aggressive behaviour.

The assaults — some involving nurses being kicked, choked and punched, and resulting in facial injuries, suspected fractures — have prompted staff to protest outside the hospital this afternoon.

Mr Holmes called for extra security and staff to prevent patient behaviour escalating into violence.

Sydney terror raids: Alleged IS supporters were targeting police stations, churches.

Churches, courts, and police stations were among the suspected targets of two alleged Islamic State supporters arrested in counter-terrorism raids in Sydney.

Australian Federal and New South Wales officers raided six homes across five suburbs in western and south western Sydney on Tuesday morning.

A 20-year-old man from Greenacre and a 23-year-old man from Toongabbie are expected to be charged with being members of Islamic State.

AFP Assistant Commissioner Ian McCartney told reporters on Tuesday it will be alleged in court that the men in custody intended to carry out an attack in Australia and that they were in "early-stage preparations".

"We will say that they had a number of targets, including police stations, defence establishments, embassies and councils, courts and churches," he said.

McCartney says the 20-year-old man, identified as Isaak El Materi, had been monitored for the past 12 months since returning to Australia from Lebanon, where he had been jailed for trying to fight with IS.

Allowed to return to Sydney for 12 months, EL Materi had allegedly made preparations, including the purchase of airline tickets, to travel to Afghanistan to fight for Islamic State.

The 23-year-old from Toongabbie, named as Radwan Dakkak, is also accused of pledging allegiance to IS, and was allegedly "prominent in the global online extremist community".

A third man, Ahmed Tebya, was arrested in the raids and is expected to be charged with fraud offences.

McCartney says the foiled terror plot is a stark reminder there are still members within the community who wish to cause harm.

The brother of slain Islamic State terrorist Khaled Sharrouf has been charged over an alleged violent assault of a woman, who has been left with a fractured eye socket and numerous broken bones.

The woman also had her hair shaved off in the alleged attack.

Police say the 27-year-old woman turned up at Riverwood Police Station about 10pm on Tuesday.

She had severe facial injuries and was treated by paramedics at the station.

Arken Abdul Rahim Sharrouf was arrested at a home on Belmore Road at Peakhurst a short time later.

Khaled Sharrouf is believed to have been killed by a coalition airstrike in Syria.

I would rather see the whole family deported along with the imams who run the mosques they attend. Every time a terrorist is associated with a particular mosque they should be scrutinised. More than one attending the same mosque then the mosque should be closed down and the imam deported as well.
