Will these car sell for more than $63K...or whatever our illustrious government deems the threshold
for "luxury" cars these days....if so they will attract a luxury car tax....that's great news for the government
isn't it....not for the consumer, however...
BUT the LCT was introduced to protect our now non existent auto industry....pft...
How is the government going to balance the books when they lose all that revenue
from petrol sales....
Theyll think of something to screw the peons....Im sure of that.....
Wasn't it a fantastic election ?

Perhaps a weight tax might be used to replace the fuel tax on all electric cars. But the govt can tax hydrogen sales just like petrol and diesel sales.
All electric cars are very limited as they all have the problem of the battery overheating under any heavy load.
Hydrogen is seen as the most likely replacement when oil runs out as hydrogen can be used to power cars and large trucks and large industrial machinery.
In my previous post I said catalytic converter when I meant fuel cell.
Hydrogen has the potential to be a huge export earner for Australia as Japan wants to import Australian hydrogen.

The thought I have is that they may well introduce a "distance" charge like they have in California...
So much per kilometre...
If you don't use the car much, you pay less...they'll do the maths and fix it to ensure they don't lose any
revenue in comparison to taxes from petrol.....plus of course the LCT for vehicles imported which sell in excess of the threshold...which they may well reduce to gain more revenue....they wouldn't do that would they...!!!

I think the plan in California is simply a pilot programme, where groups of drivers are testing various methods.
Other states are also trialling the same thing...
Im waiting with bated breath for our governments to announce their plans...a GPS system would probably be the only
way to go...how theyre going to go about collecting it Im stuffed if I know...
A GPS system would probably tell the driver how many kilometres he/she has driven say on a monthly basis...but
then how does one pay the amount...in one state in the US I think the experimental rate is 1.5c per mile...
Do the maths on an average month...say the months total driving is 1000 kilometres...call the 1.5c per mile
I dunno...5c per kilometre for the sake of the discussion...thats $50 for the months driving..
Whats happens now...does every driver at the end of the month BPay the fifty bucks to State Revenue...
Or is it an automatic charge on your credit card....details of which you supply at the point of purchase...
The mind boggles....
One things for sure..our governments will stuff it up....
