Christchurch District Court Judge Stephen O'Driscoll said that when questioned about the video, Arps had described it as "awesome" and had shown no empathy toward the victims.

Justice O'Driscoll said the 44-year-old had strong and unrepentant views about the Muslim community and had, in effect, committed a hate crime.
"Your offending glorifies and encourages the mass murder carried out under the pretext of religious and racial hatred," he said.

I think they have a point.

why dont you for one second think of these 51 people just as PEOPLE and not MUSLIMS....

its not a big ask.......just imagine this took place in Sandy Hook Christchurch...

and the shooter was of Islam faith....and this other person claimed the video of the shooting was "awesome"....

??????????????
If that's directed at me, cods. I'll say it again. Regardless of the man's views, I take issue with the media erasing unbiased footage, they are trying to take away the people's individual freedom to see the shit for themselves, without the influence of biased opinions. It's okay to hammer footage of that stupid bitch Adern in a burka, being the heroic social justice warrior but when it comes to what actually happened? No, we can't show that. The children sheeple of the world are too sensitive. God forbid we have personal responsibility for our actions.

no not you in particular... most of the posts are anti the sentence and yes I get that...

and yes you are entitled to your thoughts......however your thoughts on here are not going round the world.....are they??..

the thing is it IS HIS VIEWS that break the law......his attitude is inciting.......they have drawn a line in the sand......

I am not sure I understand that comment highlighted reboot...

but if you are gloating about the sight of someone shooting 51 people.... then to me you HAVE NO personal responsibility at all

using words like "awesome" is gloating reboot...imo.
His sentencing is for sharing the video, not his beliefs, cods.

Regarding the personal responsibility part... my point there being, that Adern wants to silence these sorts of videos from being shown to the public. Hence this man's sentencing. Her reasoning? She doesn't want these types of killings glorified. She doesn't want 'copycats' gaining inspiration from it.

My point is, if you ban everything that may inspire the 'evil' side of humans, where does it end? We would have nothing. We would learn nothing, and we would be blinded from reality because nanny state governments deem us feeble minded and weak.

I watched the Ted Bundy tapes last night. Why not ban those from being aired? One could argue he was glorified. The charming, non-suspecting law student kills tons of women, escapes jail twice and then his trial is publicised. A wet dream for any sicko who desires fame and dreams of raping and killing women. Better ban that, lest us small minded sheeple gain inspiration and try to mimic him.

reboot may I suggest you reread the op...

The court heard that Arps — who had compared himself to Nazi war criminal Rudolf Hess — had sent the video to 30 associates.

Justice O'Driscoll said Arps had also asked somebody to insert crosshairs and include a kill count in order to create an internet meme, although there was no evidence he had shared the meme.

Under legislation aimed at preventing the distribution of objectionable material, Arps faced up to 14 years imprisonment on each count.
According to court documents, Arps was charged with "offensive behaviour" and fined NZ$800 ($759) in 2016 after he delivered a bloodied pig's head to Al Noor mosque, one of the mosques that was targeted in the mass shooting.

he did a little more than share the video...

Yes, I'm well aware of what he did. That was a separate incident three years ago.

It takes a lot to disturb me, in this wonderful world we live in, cods.

Okay. Let me put it another way.

Say if some random, average person with no criminal record or no ill intent towards Islam, got hold of the footage and shared it for the sake of generating awareness? Would this person deserve to go to jail for it, yes or no?

well I will say NO... as long as they didnt add to it.....

and you can guarantee that is what has happened....some of those getting it are children....who are highly influenced especially by violence these days...

this case is in NZ.. so if someone sends it on overseas nothing NZ can do about it.....

I ask myself what if one of my grandsons received it....... from little acorns might oaks grow

these are seeds reboot.....just little ideas that some people turn into evil....

its only my opinion I am not picking on you..

I tend to see everything from a different direction to most people.....I drive the family mad as well.

Don't sweat it. :thumb I like that we can disagree without resorting to arrogance, condescension and petty school-yard antics (which we both know we are guilty of elsewhere LOL). I'm sure I don't need to go into that further. :giggle

You bring up an interesting point about the "seeds". The ideas that are planted into our brain. I think belief plays a huge role in a person's actions. However, I also believe in personal responsibility.

You may be surprised, for instance, how common people may fantasize about murdering somebody. Could be an arsehole boss, a lover that cheated on you, a family member that betrayed you, etc. It is quite normal, out of anger, to imagine doing it. However, only certain people triggered or motivated by extreme rage, or perhaps combined with alcohol or meth, would actually go through and do it.

Same goes for men who rape women. I have one older brother, seven years my senior, and I grew up around him and his friends talking about how they wanna rape a woman up the arse, and many other horrible things I won't go into. Were they rapists, did they give into their depraved fantasies? No. (Well, not to my knowledge, but you would be surprised how common such conversations between males are).

The brain is susceptible to many ideas, ideas that came before us. Should governments be allowed to make laws that prevents knowledge (good or ill) from being passed down to the masses, because some people can't control their actions?

One of the problems I envisage is that many people (particularly young people) become more obsessed with seeing/doing something if it is prohibited and could actively seek it out just to 'break the rules' whereas they may not even consider seeing the same thing if it was more accessible.

Bingo. Have I told you I love you?

Yes, the appeal of the forbidden fruit. It's what had me watching R18 horror movies at an age below double digits. I haven't murdered anybody yet but, I'm sure most here agree I'm pretty fucked up

I've seen some of the footage and it looks like CGI to me.

Any wonder they don't want it getting out - folks would realise that they've been had hook line and sinker.

In the mean time - the gun grabbers will be taking Honest folks guns off them along with their freedoms.

While at the same time flooding the place with Muslims.

Better wake up people.
I recall you saying this on another thread. While in my cynicism I would not be surprised if it were true, I just don't know. How do you explain the victim's families grieving? Is it paid acting? Also, if it is fake, it makes no sense to release a CGI video and then make a big song and dance to try and erase it from the public's view? Though I have read about these tactics before.

Out of curiosity, do you believe 9/11 was a false flag/inside job?
100%

I don't know anyone with the slightest bit of critical thinking can say it wasn't.

Even Donald Trump from day dot said that there had to be explosives that took these towers down.

No one knows Sky Scrapers better than the Donald, how they are built and what it takes to take them down.

and Building #7

What?

Did it fall down by fright?

It wasn't touched but it fell into its own footprint?

Seriously, if anyone can't see that this was a controlled demolition then I dont know what its going to take to wake them up.

Look at the history of the US creating false flags to get into wars.

Since this day America has been at war in the Middle East ever since. its madness.

The Mosque Shooter?

He fired his shotgun 3 times at his cars windscreen from inside and didnt blow a hole in it??

HELLO!!!!
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
