FIL is Father In Law. His exwife’s father was going to testify for my brother if necessary. They settled out of court. His wife had the same income and her infidelity gave my brother the leverage he needed to get a good settlement. No alimony and shared custody with kids guaranteed to stay in the school district he lives in. Now that the kids can decide to not see their mother, she doesn’t hardly see them.FLEKTARN wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 12:03 amWhat is FIL?Texan wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 11:43 pmMy brother made out pretty well in his divorce after his wife cheated on him. I think he just got lucky that she cheated and he had proof. If she decides to divorce him...just like that, I don't know. Men usually lose a house or car or two.

Sorry for all that. It's bad for the kids. I know what's growing up without a father or in a broken family. It sucks big time. I mean, they'll see the father often at least, I didn't. And it's good that there's no alimony at least.Texan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 7:52 amFIL is Father In Law. His exwife’s father was going to testify for my brother if necessary. Cheating is the one thing I don't stand. It's not only lying, it's betrayal from the highest form. I never understood it. If you don't like the woman or man, just man up, and leave. I had the chance to fuck other youngsters when I was in a relationship, one was dancing in my lap, I didn't. It's just not for me.

Australia doesn't have alimony. Good thing too as I don't believe in it.

For reals? Here alimony is calculated on your income. Court decides.Black Orchid wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 2:40 pmAustralia doesn't have alimony. Good thing too as I don't believe in it.

You can apply for a divorce online too. $900 or if you have a Health Care Card $300.Black Orchid wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 2:40 pmAustralia doesn't have alimony. Good thing too as I don't believe in it.

Well actually we do...its called spousal maintenance....it may not be called alimony, and it may be calculated differently, but
in essence, its a similar payment from one party to the other....

We do have Spouse Maintenance but it only applies if there is a huge difference in the incomes of the parties and is only applicable for a specific time frame ie if you don't get payments for life and/or until you remarry. The limit is usually 2 years maximum and I don't know anyone who has ever petitioned for it.
It's a temporary thing and just enough to adequately support yourself not aimed at "keeping you in a lifestyle to which you have become accustomed". They expect you to get a job and support yourself.
