Where do you get the idea that you KNOW everything about everybody?

Many years ago, at a business do in Sydney, the wife of the American Boss, on a visit to Australia, buttonholed me with a series of questions. I was very young but had been "briefed" by my husband NOT to discuss Religion, Politics or Race. This woman (her name was Patricia, I can still visualise her today) first asked me about their President (I hardly knew who our PM was, less alone the US President), so I declined to comment. Then she started in on the Mormons, forgotten what she was but obviously didn't "like" the Latter Day Saints. So I got out of that discussion too. Then she started in on the African Americans .... and finally said "IF you had a daughter, would you let her marry one?" .... I had no kids at that stage ... my reply to Patricia was "I would have to meet him first". Guess what? I got told off by hubby because I was "too forward" and didn't "bow down" to Patricia. We did entertain her and husband, Richard again later. Hubby kept his job but I guess that I should have AGREED with Patricia, rather than have a personal opinion?
