Texan - read about Dallas here

Post by FLEKTARN » Mon Jun 03, 2019 12:10 pm

This thread is for my hateful friend Texan here, I have just seen the headline.

A new urban park in Dallas will be 11 times larger than New York’s Central Park

As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas, and now that includes the green spaces. Dallas is building a 40 sq. km park along the Trinity River roughly 11 times larger than New York City’s Central Park.

In addition to providing beauty and open space, the park was designed to protect Dallas from extreme floods that have plagued the city in the past. Designers added riparian landscapes to stabilise and restore the riverbanks and worked with government engineers to ensure the park’s sound infrastructure throughout potentially damaging rainstorms, making it accessible even during 10-year storms.

Dallas can't control their crime or fix their streets. Due to working conditions and low pay, Dallas is about 900 officers short of normal levels. Dallas government and schools are deeply divided along racial lines and get nothing done without going way over budget.

It's a neat concept and something needs to be done with the Trinity River bottoms along the West side of the city, but this will never happen in the next decade.

:oops

Didn't know. Well, we have ghost projects here too, aiming to suck the remaining and already very thin municipal budget out.

And btw, what do you mean divided by racial lines? Texas is like 89% white, isn't that so?

I haven’t looked it up, but Dallas is about 40% hispanic, 35% white, and 25% black. The city council is divided by districts that usually follow racial lines and there is a lot of drama. The smart people live outside of Dallas County, where the schools are better and taxes and crime are lower.

Texas, being a border state has about equal amounts of Hispanic and whites, but the Hispanics who have been here for several generations are basically white in attitude and values. Most are for closing our borders to illegals. Big cities tend to invite the illegals.
