Do the police have helicopters? As understaffed as the Dallas Police Department is, they would be on home invasions and car jackings like a duck on a June bug. The chase would be live on the local news.
In some Australian states, Police are not permitted to "chase" for fear of causing vehicular accidents, and the resulting legal
actions against Police....
Im not sure if a disclaimer applies in all states, but Qld Police have to sign a disclaimer before they graduate, which absolves the
Government from all responsibility if something goes wrong...in other words, the Police Unions in an attempt to protect their members from law suits, push to enact "no chase" rules....
A bit strange, considering the Police officers and the Government are in a master/servant relationship, and the Officers
are simply doing their duty....the disclaimer apparently overrules everything...if the graduating officer refuses to sign, he doesnt
graduate....just another way the government avoids massive law suits....putting the responsibility back on the officer...
That seems like a limp wristed approach to stopping crime. That gives anybody in a stolen car free reign to go on rampage as long as they wait until the police aren't around when they leave the car. The government refuses to protect by letting the officers take all of the liability for their actions when they are representatives of the city.(county, state, whatever) It's your country, but I don't understand that.
I suppose theres two ways to look at it....
If I was sitting in my loungeroom with my wife and kids and suddenly a police car in pursuit of a stolen vehicle crashes through my
wall and kills some of us because the driver lost control.....who do I sue...the Government...the knee jerk reaction is to ban chases
altogether...
There was a case recently where the Qld Police aborted a chase and the stolen vehicle crossed the state border into NSW
only to be stopped by tyre spikes...everyone laughed at the Qld Police giving up the chase well before the border...
Apparently they still chase in NSW....
The disclaimer also protects the Government from law suits for assaults etc if an officer places the cuffs on too tight etc...
Thats why Police leave in droves after realizing the legal implications of the disclaimer....long story....
We charge the fleeing criminal with homicide if anybody in the chase kills someone. Much like if a robber is shot and killed by a store clerk, the robber's accomplice is charged with murder, even if he is just the gettaway driver. I'm not trying to tell you how to run your country. I'm just saying what we do here for comparison.

There's a very good solution for what happens in Australia but I won't advise it here for legal reasons, I'll just share what I've seen/heard. :bgrin

Australian police is too soft, US police is crazed, but there's something that works here. Muslims and other Black and Asian immigrants rarely make trouble here because they don't send them to prison. They visit jail for 24 hours and get beat to shit. :thumb It's a very prominent practice where they beat your shit with a soap, placed inside of a long sock (usually female socks). Hurts a lot they say, and it doesn't leave marks like bruises so you can't sue them.

Even if thugs escape legal "complications", most of them get beat on the streets. So nobody tries anything. There's a video how a black guy gets knocked out for speaking too much. Hardly will anyone steal anything because he'll get his nose broken. That clearly, again, won't work in the US because someone will pull out an UZI and shoot you. But weapons and psychotic thugs are not typical for Australia, so there's that - taking things into own's hands, some people are assessing about it. :bgrin

The problem in Australia, as I see it is soft sentencing which comes down to a push by state governments to rehabilitate, rather than punish, which commenced maybe 30 or so years ago.
This was brought about by the need to reduce the number of inmates in prisons due to the costs.
In other words the state governments were going broke.
Even the disclaimer I posted about is simply to protect governments from law suits....
State governments outsource wherever they can to avoid costs..even sheriffs officers have now been partly privatized...
The country is going broke...and law and order is suffering...
They introduced legislation to criminalize outlaw bikie gangs...result..they just move to Canberra... (ACT)
Until Canberra does the same thing, the place will be a mess..
I have always been an advocate for mandatory sentencing...but thats another story....wont happen in my time...

I would think that if you hit someone with a bar of soap inside a sock it would leave a mark.

Here they used to hold a thick telephone book up against the skin then hit them with a fist or a baton or whatever because that supposedly didn't leave a mark. Not sure how true that is though.

EDIT: I would think it is a myth anyway. It would always leave a mark but just not a fist or baton type mark. If you damage soft tissue it will bruise.

If you are going to violate their civil rights, you might as well shoot them and leave a "drop gun". Self defense. They can't argue.

That's where this argument goes and it's just as wrong.

I want to believe in rehabilitation in Australia. Clearly not the case in Australia. Just sand in the eyes.

This is what too much feminism brings. All to please women. Poor Arabs. Lived so poorly. Ooh. Let's give them a slap on the hands and let them go. You can't rehabilitate people who stone other people for punishment. Just saying.

It doesn't bruise. Avoid the face, just. The soap is soft.

First they violate the country's rights and everyone's rights. Then they demand rights.

From the prisons they still run things. They form gangs and pay the guards.

They won't pay anyone on the streets when I punch him in the throat as hard as I can, in a dark alley, and walk away. Not advising that, tho. It's just what I would do.

A quick sentence. Quick justice. Lesson learned. I hope.

I'm all for putting a wall on the border and shooting anybody trying to breech it into my country and I am very hard on criminals, but torturing people into submission to the government is not something I could support. When would I be the next for an "attitude adjustment" and I very rarely break any law. (Maybe traffic laws sometimes.) How many times would a "soap party" convince someone they should be a suicide bomber, serial killer, or mass shooter? If you get caught throat punching somebody, I hope it was in self defense and nobody can prove otherwise.
