Only people who pay tax should have a right to vote
Only those who contribute to government coffers should be able to vote in the people who will deem how that money should be spent.

Several criteria should be applied
Taxpayers or retirees.
Australian citizens for longer than 10 years.
No criminal history
No public servants.

I think you should pay tax to be able to vote OR have paid tax in the past for a set number of years to be determined.

yes, if you avoid tax, you do not contribute so society, so you should not have a say in how it is run.Redneck wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 3:55 pmWell that rules out half the Australian Oligarchs!Mistress Nicole wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 3:49 pmOnly those who contribute to government coffers should be able to vote in the people who will deem how that money should be spent.

Students should be banned for 10 years after leaving uni
With all the idiot teachers we have now, it will take that long for the stupidity to gradually drain out of their ears.

Re: Only people who pay tax should have a right to vote
Rather than tie voting to taxes, I'd would simply tie it to welfare. Anybody taking unearned money from the government can't vote. Retirees are receiving money that they have already sent to the government, and I'm also not worried about someone who is physically disabled. I want to keep those who are able bodied and yet so foolish that they cannot be bothered to support themselves from controlling how MY tax dollars are spent.
My wife hasn't worked outside the home in 25 years and has only payed taxes from my paycheck. She has done nothing to deserve having her vote taken away from her. She has worked hard to cook my meals, clean my house, and raise my kids while I am out working. I've left home for weeks at a time while she handles everything important to me.
I'd also like to not tie voting to individual taxes because I hate income taxes. It's something that requires government micromanagement and lording over your personal finances and you are threatened with wage garnishment or imprisonment if you even accidentally misreport it, and the tax code is not simple. Politicians like to pit different classes against each other and guilt the rich into accepting larger and larger tax bills. I like a simple sales tax. It's impersonal and fair. A maximum tax percentage and a balanced budget amendment would force the government to watch their spending. If a budget cannot be balanced, the entire congress is fired for life and we hold new elections. I'm tired of tightening my belt so politicians can spend more of my money.
Another variation is to have each state pay a set amount of taxes to the feds per each member of the population based on the census. If California wants to invite all of these illegals into their state, they can pay taxes for them. Each state can decide how they will collect these taxes. We already have 50 different tax systems among the states.

Jesus you guys have a convoluted tax and political system, In NZ we have one house, a hundred odd seats if you win the majority of them you run the country, and we have GST on the sale of goods and services and a "pay as you earn" tax on income,,
