Peter Martin makes himself look very silly:
What if they built a high-speed broadband network and nobody signed up?
Well, actually just 200 people.
Telstra's high-speed internet service, which offers speeds of up to 100mbps has only been taken up by about 200 customers since its launch last year, throwing the viability of the NBN into question.

Someone in comments points out the 100mbp service costs $270/month!
NBN could offer that for $35/mth plus phone service thrown in!

I have heard things were that way with Telstra, Howard. I have heard nothing but complaints about them from my aussie friends for years.

I have heard someone on radio, (who said he worked for telstra) say, they are directed from their suprvisors to send out extra charges on the bills, most people pay without a second thought.

Their bills seem to be made as complex as possible to cut down on queries. Their customer service sucks pretty hard... but then, that's the way with big business. It's not like they have to try that hard to keep the majority of their customers, being the "default" provider for most people.

Yes when they send out an ovedue bill it has the amount only with no explanation to what the bill is related to.Just $60.00 for example nothing else.

That's an example of oversimplification, for the same purpose, I suppose.
I hate the way they are bundling internet access by default onto mobile phones. Anyone who doesn't fully understand the "terms and conditions" (and honestly, who really reads through all of that gibber jabber?) is set up to get totally shafted. The young and elderly are good candidates for outrageous bills that are inadvertently rung up.

Another thing Telstra does is, when you get a new mobile or change your account, they automatically have voice call into it ,with only two rings, hardly time for you to answer, then you have to pay extra if you want to use it.
They did this to me when I had to get a digital phone, I rung them up and made them take it off,no one needs voice call (answering) the phone number registers on your mobile, if you need to call back.Thieving bloody bastards.
