The son of former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has taken credit for the ousting of Tony Abbott from the seat of Warringah, labelling him, "very much a terrorist" relation to disputes within the Liberal Party.

Speaking exclusively to 9News from Singapore, Alex Turnbull, who has been a vocal critic of sections of the Liberal Party since his father lost the leadership said, "I think not having Tony (Abbott) there helps."

"I am very happy I got rid of Tony."

"Tony was very much a terrorist."

It is "expected given the complete misalignment of his politics and his electorate."

On the eve of the election, 9News revealed Alex Turnbull had voiced a robocall urging voters in the Sydney seat of Warringah to not give "Tony Abbott your vote."

In the robocall he said:

"I'm calling to let you know that this election you have a choice.

"You can vote for Peter Dutton's ally Tony Abbott, who drove the coup that removed Malcolm and has been a driver of the non-stop instability of the party.

"With people like Tony in office, there is no hope of stable government under the Liberals.

"Or, you can vote for someone who has integrity and standing up for action on the climate crisis.

"A vote for Tony Abbott is a vote for more climate chaos and more chaos in Canberra."
