Yes people want more jobs not more taxes. Bob Brown's anti Adani convoy swinging through Queensland really got their backs up and it showed in spades.

The franking credits thing was bigger than they thought and it was stupid to attack retirees who had planned for their retirement throughout their working life so they wouldn't have to sponge off the government in their retirement. Retirees were going to be hit hard and then ultimately they would have to be paid a part pension. Very counterproductive.

Not only these self funded retirees, but their entire families as well, would have voted against this.

Why did the ALP lose?

Basically it was because the Tories were decided to be a better choice by the Australian electorate.

Why did they decide that? Partly because of the scare campaign mounted by the Tories, partly because of the ALP's own inability/unwillingness to explain their own policies sufficiently well enough to counter that scare campaign.

One thing I noticed during the campaign was that just how bad the scare campaigns by both sides were.

The ALP's answer to the Tories' scare campaign was one of their own. However, it wasn't as effectively as the Tories'. They would have been better off simply discounting the scare campaign - treat it with humour and be dismissive of it. Hawke was good at that, he go rid of the old "kicking the Communist can" regularly used by the Tories to frighten the voters.

Shorten is not the inspiring leader they made him out to be. He is fairly dreary and too much of a back room man. He would be effective in Union politics but he's proved he's a failure in Federal politics.

So, who is to succeed him? I like Tanya Plebiasek. However, she would have a tough time ahead of her. The Tories are nasty people and would mock her gender. Some in her own party could also be a problem. She would face a monumental job rebuilding the ALP and facing an arrogant Tories. So, who else is possibly in the frame?

"If they don't like it, they don't have to vote for us"

funny how the lefties all claim there was a SCARE CAMPAIGN.... I must have missed it..

did it have anything to do with poo being put through letterboxes....or bill boards being defaced or ads being removed because of blatant lies.

did it have anything to do with outside money and groups deciding which liberal member they would try to destroy>>>in your case labor member?/

   ///

not once did I see shorten or any left member condemning any of that...

to read what greg said about assassinating morrison.....was more than disgusting...

so far the names redneck has handed out to morrison have also been appalling....

then they whinge about someone saying something about shorten mother...  which were all fact...
