Re: 2019 Federal Election
My postal vote papers came from the AEC with the ballot papers and a return envelope, so I filled them out, got my daughter to witness them, put them in the envelope, sealed it and got her to post it off. Like I said, this was last week as I was a little wary about AustPost being s l o w, but they were on the ball this time.

EXACTLY! I notice that Fat Clive's ads have stopped ... thankfully, I was about to throw something at the TV.The Mechanic wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 12:49 pmLast election was 1.6 Million early voterssprintcyclist wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 12:40 pmyes, more people are voting early.Neferti~ wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 12:38 pmHow annoying that somebody who should know, didn't!Black Orchid wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 11:06 amOK all sorted. I called the AEC and the real cutoff isn't until tomorrow and I can fill out the application (the second ) online which is what I am doing now. Federal member got it wrong and lost a vote for being a dick.
I did a postal vote this year too. Filled out the application online and the paperwork arrived in my mailbox the next day, then I posted the completed vote off that night and got an email the following morning (before 9 am) from the AEC that they had received my postal vote! The Austpost must have had a tail wind. This was last week. I applied early just in case it took a while to get here and back again, knowing what AustPost can be line.
I think a lot of people have either voted pre-poll or sent a postal vote this time. Just goes to show how bored we all are.
A good idea I think.
They should do it by email.
This year so far is 2.6 Million and counting
Guess what Mr Politicians... everyone has already made up their minds.. what you say and do now is irrelevant...

Beats me why neither major addresses immigration.

Thank God for Pauline!
That's going on 2.5 million people since 2006. That we know about.According to the most recent national Census (2016), almost half of Australians were born overseas or have a parent who was.
The nation has accepted more than 180,000 overseas migrants annually, in net terms, since 2006.
54% say immigration is too high! With almost half of all Australians having been born overseas how skewed are our future polls going to be on this subject? But as Melbourne and Sydney in particular continue to grow, so too do calls to reduce Australia's migrant intake. Views among the public are also changing, as the chart below shows.
It comes despite Australia taking fewer migrants in 2017-18 than it did a year earlier.

I thought immigration might be addressed by Morrison too, but thus far, nope. I think the Coalition have said they will cap immigration at "160,000" (?) pa or whatever figure it is, but even that is way too much.Black Orchid wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 3:45 pmBeats me why neither major addresses immigration.

Until "somebody" addresses where all these migrants are going to reside and do something about not overflowing Sydney and Melbourne with them, both those cities are FULL to the brim and nobody wants to live in Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth .... or Tassie/Canberra.
"Somebody" might even think about doing something about getting water and solar/wind "power" out into the middle of Oz. If they can build a railway line from Adelaide to Darwin, surely they can add a few bits of greenery, trees and so forth along the way and some JOBS for people, a school and hospital and send the migrants out that way ... or the asylum seekers from the Middle East who would not need to acclimatize at all. Welcome to Down under, take this train to a great place and start living large.
The funds could easily be raised by stopping all the millions we send overseas to prop up other countries .... spend our taxpayer money in Australia!
