Labor Party apparatchiks goofed yesterday and sent the day’s key election talking points to the media — the very people who it hoped would be spun by them.

The Labor “Issues Brief” tells candidates how to respond to the issues of the day and included points on the Liberal Party campaign launch, more cash for the ABC and the topic of News Corporation, publisher of The Daily Telegraph.

It also advises candidates on how to respond if they are asked why an increase to the dole or foreign aid funding has not been costed.

The bungle reveals how Labor is instructing its candidates to try and harness the initial backlash against The Daily Telegraph’s story last week on Opposition Leader Bill Shorten’s comments on Q&A about his mother and her career for political gain.

Candidates are advised to raise issue about News Corp on tax and refer to it as “just another multinational.”

The brief bungle came on a day in which Mr Shorten attempted to steal the thunder from Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s campaign launch in Melbourne with his own rally in the city — complete with a passionate pash with wife Chloe on stage.

The Labor leader was sticking closely to the issues brief on ABC’s Insiders program where he was grilled by host Barrie Cassidy, who asked if he was planning “retribution” against The Daily Telegraph for the story, which outlined how the Labor leader neglected to tell a Q&A audience about his mother’s legal career.

“For six years some in the conservative ranks in the media and the Liberals have just thrown bricks at us,” he said. “But we've come through all of that.

“If we want the people to trust us we have to trust them first. That’s why we've outlined our policies.”

LABOR CANDIDATES APPARENTLY NEED TELLING HOW TO PUT ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER...
