Texans are famous for adding abbreviations on top of abbreviations.

could not have = couldn’t’ve
Did you eat yet? = jeetyet?
You want to = yantoo

It comes out in speech more than text.
I like the good old

Dijaaveagooweegend? - did you have a good week end

The faster you say it the better.

We usually reserve our run on words for when we are excited.

When a stray dog is digging in our flower beds.....

GETONOUTOFHERE! SUMBITCH!

Usedtacould is another.

"I can't run a 5 minute mile, but I usedtacould.

I love Aussie slang

When overseas, I was working with gentlemen and ladies of many and varied nationalities.

When another Aussie was around we used to really ham it up, it was like a foreign language to those around us.

But the worst were the Canadians, they just couldn't keep up.
I gave one mate a book of aussie slang and he used to quiz me to see if it was real and if I understood it.
It was really quite good, never got one term wrong, he said aussies are weird.
I agreed, and explained it was because we had to fight off all the toxic and dangerous animals.

Such fun

Try explaining to a Canadian what "chucking a wobbly" is.

Or better still "who let fluffy off his chain"

It's a scream.

Kind of back on topic. I sold a gun to a complete stranger today. My wife bought a pistol that didn't suit her. I could fire it just fine and it worked perfectly, but she had frequent failures to eject.(Springfield Arms M&P .380 EZ) We decided that it was due to her limp wristing when shooting. She decided that she wanted to sell the gun and I had no need for it. We were at the gun counter in a large farming supply chain store (Atwoods). A man overheard us talking about the gun with the clerk at the gun counter and offered to buy the gun. We agreed on a price and he promised to show me his Texas License To Carry. I left my wife to browse in the store and retrieved the gun from home. The 3 of us met in the parking lot. I let him inspect the gun. He showed me his LTC and gave me the cash and we went our separate ways. No government involvement and perfectly legal in Texas.

His LTC is legal proof that he is a resident of Texas, has been background checked, is not overdue on any taxes, alimony, or child support payments, has never been convicted of a felony, has never been committed to an asylum, has never been dishonorably discharged from the military, and never been convicted of domestic abuse. It goes well above the requirements of the law and I will always demand either an LTC, police or judicial credentials, or a military ID. All of those prove to me that the person has been checked out thoroughly. Otherwise, I will complete the sale through a Federal Firearm Licensed dealer, where the proper background checks will be performed unless it's to a friend whom I have known for years and trust.

I thought you might find it interesting how private gun sales work in most American states.

You hear some strange contractions in Indiana, too.

For instance:

"Where'd you get that?"
(Pointing) "Back'air."

Not to mention interesting pronouns:
"Ooh, them are good!"

Don’t you mean “Ooh, Them’s good!”?

I think much of Ebonics comes from Red Neck speak.

One of my favorite movies is Oh Brother, Where Art Thou. I don’t like George Clooney ‘s politics, but he was brilliant in this movie. Good music as well. It’s a very loose red neck interpretation of The Odessy. It even includes a cyclops and sirens.

Well, there's probably more of that! One of my friends, however, tended to used the more grammatically correct "are" with the plural "them." :?

I also knew a woman from Mississippi who, after answering her phone with "Hello," would greet friends with the follow-up, "Hah hair-yew?"

Then there was this politically correct chapter title from the Journal of Curriculum and Teaching:
Many African American Students Tend to Approximate Space, Number, and Time Rather than Stick to Accuracy.

Generally in the United States, promptness and accuracy are expected. However, in studying mathematics,
approximations can be just as important as accuracy. Children, in the past and now, are convinced in school that
mathematics is the study of the precise and that only one correct answer and only one correct algorithm are possible.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics recommends in the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for
School Mathematics (1989: 37) that children investigate and understand when it is appropriate to estimate and when
it is appropriate to calculate an exact answer. If indeed many African American students tend to approximate space,
number, and time, teachers need to recognize this approach as an asset, not a deficit. Helping all students recognize
that both approximations and precise answers are appropriate depending on the given situation is of utmost
importance.
This is a long-winded way of saying, "When black kids get an answer wrong, it isn't necessarily wrong. They just tend to approximate more than their classmates."

The 50th anniversary of the first moon landing is coming up in July. Can you imagine the head of NASA Mission Control telling his staff, "When calculating how to get the crew back to Earth, both approximations and precise answers are appropriate!"

Never saw that movie. But anyone looking to study hillbilly vernacular (and mating habits) should rent "Deliverance."

Never seen the movie "The Dish" have you, 4E? Nor read anything about how they got Apollo 13 back from the moon after their accident. In both cases ("The Dish" cover Australia's contribution to Apollo 11) approximation was good enough to find Apollo 11 after it was "lost" by the Parkes Radio Telescope and to get Apollo 13 back to Earth. I'd recommend you watch both movies, you might find them educational...

The Dish was boring. Much like Brian.

But if you find Brian “educational”, go for it 4E...
