Re: Fat Clive Palmer.
A vandal has summed up the attitude of many Australians who have just about had enough of Clive Palmer's intrusive and relentless political ads.
The unknown vandal modified Mr Palmer's slogan 'Make Australia Great' and altered a sign in Melbourne to read 'Make Australia Fat'.
The change in wording was cheered on by many sick of the bright yellow ads displayed all across Australia.

Your right. Clive Palmer has a very bad record. But he is spending a lot of money politically and that does scare me.

Re: Fat Clive Palmer.
I agree with getting rid of preferences. Especially when the 2 major parties work in cahoots to get rid of those who oppose them.

I dont know how it all works. If you did away with preferences doesnt that make it more likely that one of the two major parties win almost always?

Basically, yes. The actual best prosition to be voted on a HoR ballot is number two or number three. Below those numbers, your preferences basically "disappear" as the candidate fails to make the "cut". Number three's preferences invariably flow to number two, hopefully making them then, number one and they win the seat.belchabeerdown wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 8:30 pmI dont know how it all works. The alternative that most here seem to prefer is "first-past-the-post" voting systems, where each vote only counts once. The FPTP system works best when there are only two candidates running for a seat. More than three and it is possible for the lest liked candidate to actually win, over the other candidates whom receive between them, the most votes but because the votes only count once, the least liked candidate has more than the other candidates and wins.
Voting systems are basic electoral theory. I am constantly surprised that so few Australians have made the effort to understand them. They just run along and perform their electoral duty and fulfil their obligations before the AEC. If they knew how the electoral system worked and understood it fully, then there would be a great deal more "tactical voting" occurring. There isn't though, which suits the major parties much more.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-15/ ... s/11003030Businessman and political hopeful Clive Palmer has announced plans to pay back "millions of dollars" that was owed to hundreds of workers who lost their jobs when his Queensland nickel refinery went bust more than three years ago.
Key points:
Clive Palmer said he hopes to reopen the Queensland Nickel refinery immediately
Mr Palmer said his company had "$400 million in the bank" to pay back workers
The company owed $300 million in debts to creditors when it collapsed in 2016
Fronting the press in Townsville this morning, Mr Palmer said he wanted to reopen the refinery immediately.
"Townsville's certainly been doing it tough and difficult since the floods and we want to look forward and not backwards," he said.
"For that reason I've decided today that we will pay out all outstanding amounts in workers' entitlements that was owed by Queensland Nickel."
When the company collapsed in 2016, it was left owing debts of about $300 million to creditors, including local businesses and the Federal Government which covered entitlements for the 800 people who lost their jobs.
Mr Palmer distanced himself from the sackings, instead taking aim at the administrators who were overseeing operations at the time.
"This is despite the fact that we never sacked anybody and the administrators moved in to sack the workforce and to close the refinery operations down at a time when we were ready to pay all the workforce and to transfer them and to operate the refinery," he said.
He said his company had about "$400 million in the bank" ready to pay out.
Asked why people should trust him, Mr Palmer responded, "it's not for them to trust me, I own the refinery and it's my money — it's a question for me to trust them".
"We want to move forward as soon as we can for a large-scale industrial operation to make sure this city operates.
"We're not asking for anything or any assistance."
Last month, the ABC's 7:30 revealed workplace safety concerns at the Townsville refinery.
In the two years prior to the collapse of Queensland Nickel, the company donated more than $21 million to the Palmer United Party.
After the NRA thing he is apparently going all out to try to take Pauline's Queensland seat.
