Labor looking after the real pensionsers - Dental
On Sunday Mr Shorten announced that nearly three million pensioners will get $1000 of free dental work over a two year period under a Labor government.
Mr Shorten said the policy would help improve quality of life, self-confidence and basic dignity to those on the aged pension.
"No policy matters more to me than making sure our pensioners can get the dental care they need," he told party faithful at a rally in Melbourne's east.
WELL DONE BILL NO STUNTS FROM YOU EH?

Been to the dentist lately Red? I guess not?
That will give them roughly one filling a year for 2 years. It won't even get them a crown. 1/4 - 1/3 of an implant if they lose a tooth. Not to be sneezed at I guess but hardly helpful either.
I would think most aged pensioners had to worry more about broken and lost teeth so they don't have to suck their meals through a straw and $500 a year isn't going to change that. It's just pork barrelling.

What is Morrison offering? Nothing that I know of but that doesn't negate the fact that $1,000 over 2 years for pensioners dental work is just about worthless.
Years ago Medicare provided pensioners and people with chronic disease around $4,250 over a 2 year period and that was worthwhile. Trying to replace that with $500 per year is not going to help too many people.
You rabbit on about stunts. THIS IS A STUNT!
Stop being a schmuck.

I actually get treatment quite similar in the ACT now provided by the local government and it is very helpful. (link was provided if you cared to look)
It covers my basic dental quite well!

Trying to pick a fight ?
As Aussie is over yonder!
This policy almost is exactly what pensioners have had under the ACT government for years, just extending it to other areas
Very good for most regular treatments but obviously not covering extremely costly treatments
No Stunts like kicking soccer balls, shearing sheep, moving embassies etc like dopey Morrison!

$1,000 won't buy you much dental work.
It would help everyone if dentists didn't charge $300 to $400 an hour.
Medical people hold us all to ransom with their exorbitant charges.
Yes - what they can do is valuable and life saving but no more
than normal people who supply us with electricity or other services.
What if the people who supply electricity said that it will
now cost 10 times the price?
We'd still have to pay -
it's blackmail.
Medical professionals blackmail us.
I went to a large public hospital in the East of Melbourne in 2015.
The doctors parking lot had clear signage -
"reserved for medical practitioners only"
There was not one car worth less than $150,000.
Many cars were of the sports type or the latest Mercedes etc.
There were Ferraris & Lambos - many would be worth over $350,000.
There were many Audis & BMWs.
Those guys are not doing it tough -
they have money to burn.
I bet that many live in $5 Million houses in the leafy Eastern Suburbs.
They do a lot of this with public money -
they charge above the bulk billing rate so they get the maximum from
the Govt. & then a bonus with our health insurance
and for those without - it comes straight out of our pocket.
They are not in it to do us any favors -
they are in it for the money.
You have no choice - it's all whatever they want to charge us.
If not you can just die as they hold life and death over us.

As I understand it, in NSW pensioners have free dental. They go on a list and when their name comes up they are given prolonged treatment for whatever ails them, check ups, cleans, scales etc. This also covers root canal, rebuilding of teeth and even dentures.
If they are in pain or need emergency treatment between times they have an emergency number to call whereby they are given vouchers up to around $450 each which they can take to a participating dentist of their choice to have the work done there.
If you can explain to me how this pork barrelling of a lesser amount can be considered over and above what they already have now I am all ears.
They are NOT limited to one voucher of $450 per year under what is currently available to them. If they need several emergency treatments they will receive either several vouchers to take to a private dentist or will be attended to in the Oral Health Centre.
Does Bill's $500 per year replace this system? If so they will be way way way worse off. They won't be able to get root canals, tooth rebuilding or dentures.
If it doesn't replace what they have now how is it advantageous when they already have more available to them now?
Don't fly off half cocked. THINK THINK THINK what does this actually mean for pensioners??!! After all it will be affecting you ... not me.

I can only assume it is because pensioner dental coverage isnt Australia wide at the moment BO!
Dont know what happens if there is an existing system!
Side Note: - Actually NSW looks better than what we have now!
