the preferential system explained

Post by sprintcyclist » Thu Apr 18, 2019 8:29 am

............... The main elements of the operation of preferential voting are as follows:

1 voters are required to place the number “1” against the candidate of their choice, known as their first preference.

2 voters are then required to place the numbers “2”, “3”, etc., against the other candidates listed on the ballot paper in order of preference.

3 the counting of first preference votes, also known as the primary vote, takes place first. If no candidate secures an absolute majority – 50% plus 1 – of primary votes, then the candidate with the least number of votes is “eliminated” from the count.

4 the ballot papers of the eliminated candidate are examined and re-allocated amongst the remaining candidates according to the number “2”, or second preference votes.

5 if no candidate has yet secured an absolute majority of the vote, then the next candidate with the least number of primary votes is eliminated. This preference allocation continues until there is a candidate with an absolute majority. Where a second preference is expressed for a candidate who has already been eliminated, the voter’s third or subsequent preferences are used. ..............

read the first line sprint..

prefered candidate the one they want to run the show....

when you back a team you dont settle for the one that beat your team do you?...

why should we settle for that in govt... we have so much trash sitting on the benches total rubbish you wouldnt employ them in your kebab shop...
yet they are running the show because they got in through a system from the arc...

it was fine when we had a population of about 5 million...now we look like we will not only get Clive Palmer in the senate all he needs is one over the line in the HR .. and that man will have the POWER HE CRAVES... and its not for Australia its for him... to do the damage he aspires to.....

I am so angry about this...that man should not even be allowed to drum up a party....let alone run for the senate....

So much for his freedom of speech/association/political views, hey, Cods? Only the people you approve of can run, right?

You don't like him vote for someone else. If he gets elected, criticise him to your heart's content. He will only be one voice in the Senate, no more.
