Anzac Day Services Cancelled NZ

Post by Black Orchid » Tue Apr 09, 2019 10:46 pm

Auckland Council has reduced its Anzac Day event lineup by more than two-thirds due to security concerns.

There will be just 26 commemorative events across the city on April 25, down from last year's 84.

The heightened security environment since the Christchurch terror attack in March led New Zealand Police to recommend Auckland events be consolidated to ensure a substantial police presence at each one.

>snip<

Police say they recognise how important Anzac Day is for many New Zealanders, but holding fewer events in the country's biggest city will free up resources to keep people safe.

Anyone surprised?

I wonder how many will be cancelled here again?

Wars always are, Cods. Militaries are designed to fight the last war they fought, not the next one. Australia's last wars were Afghanistan and Iraq. Who is to say the next will be a counter-insurgency conflict at all? We lack the required MBTs and other armoured vehicles to undertake a major armoured war. It is highly unlike we will face any attack on continental Australia, so the only place we might encounter that sort of conflict is overseas if Washington comes whistling for their Gurkhas again...

I don't think the muzzos woukd be game

We all know they are abject cowards, nearly as cowardly as apologists and sychophant islamophiles

And after seeing what one angry white bloke can do
They woukd be shaking in their dresses.

Nah, for the time being, muzzos are cowed and compliant
Until their numbers grow,
I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

I saw Brendan Nelson interviewed not so long ago and he was saying that young people are embracing ANZAC and attending services in droves and he would know since he is the Big Wig at the AWM.

I like Brendan. He has REAL medical qualifications (unlike some people) and was once the Leader of the Liberals.

I don't agree Valkie. Not one little bit.

Glenorie dawn service has been cancelled. Small area so it's such a shame for the old vets.

Terrorist attacks are still set at 'probable'.

I've met Brendan several times. He may be the director of the AWM but he still acts very much like a politician, "meeting and greeting" the people. You just have to watch him at the evening service at the AWM when he attends. He's out there, meeting and greeting the public...

How absolutely pathetic is this.....wouldnt be because of a womans decision now would it.....

(Last year kids under 12 were told that they couldnt march
Last year local community bands in Canberra were told that they werent needed....
Wouldnt be the gradual unwinding of Anzac Day by certain bureaucrats...would it....)
Nowra RSL sub-branch president Fred Dawson said he was advised by officers from HMAS Albatross that the Navy this year decided to pull out of the commitment to mitigate the risk to personnel.

"It's beyond belief, we are talking about armed forces, men trained to fight and look after themselves in very risky circumstances, marching down Greenwell Point Road under street lights has minimal risk factors involved," he said.

"So from my perspective, sailors will be on parade in the nearby park waiting for the diggers to arrive, schools children will also be marching in the dark, but not serving personnel."

Mr Dawson said he understands individual serving members want to march.
Captain Fiona Sneath from HMAS Albatross Nowra defended the decision, and said the Navy is providing a guest speaker, a catafalque party and flag bearers.

"Captain Sneath said a fresh set of eyes looked at the position this year and a concern was raised that the time of day could be a concern.

"It is not a usual thing that happens at a dawn service, the march is generally the thing that happens at the main marches later in the day," she said.

"So there are a number of people there, there is darkness, and there were various people who looked at the conditions and an assessment was made based on usual procedure and potential safety."

"I can understand the community concerns, and we do put our people in danger at times, but we do have an obligation that we reduce any risk as much as practicable."

Captain Sneath said she is willing to review the matter."
