Predictions Next Election - Independants - Minor Parties
As this will be a normal election (not DD as was the last)
I reckon a lot of these minor parties and independants will really struggle.
I think the current Senate with lots of independants has left a nasty taste in the mouth of a lot of voters and they will move back to the majors.
Your thoughts and predictions?

Re: Predictions Next Election - Independants - Minor Parties
Minor parties and independents tend to reflect a dissatisfaction with the major parties. Double Dissolution elections make it easier for minor parties and independents to get into the Senate and the House of Representatives. However, the performances of the minor parties and the independents have, I don't doubt, left a bit of a bad taste in the mouths of many voters. Coupled with the problems presented by minority governments, like you, Red, I believe we may see a swing back to the majors at the next full, Federal election.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? For me, I prefer the stability that the major parties offer. I look overseas to say, Italy and Israel, where minor parties rule the roost. In Italy, they have had over forty governments in IIRC fifty years. Israel is held hostage by the extremist, religious based minor parties. Neither appeals to me. I prefer a strong parliamentary system with strong leaders of government and opposition.
We have seen the rise and demise and rise again of the PHONies with their appeals to the lowest common denominators in Australian society. Howard called it the "politics of jealousy". They like to blame Asian Immigration, Muslim Immigration, Indigenous Australians, the Left and so on and so on for all the troubles they see facing Australian society. The want to see a return to a "Golden Age", where white people ruled the roost and everybody else was subservient and obeyed them when they were ordered to do something. They expect immigrants to be grateful forever, they expect them not stand up for their rights, to allow themselves to be exploited and above all, they hate Asian and Muslim migrants over all the others. Basically they refuse to accept modern Australian society. They want to turn the clock back to the early 1930s.
The problem is the PHONies are run by one woman and when every she disagrees with another one of their Parliamentarians, the party splits. She cannot accept disagreement. She must control the party and everything it says and does. She refuses to accept responsibility when party apparatchiks do naughty things like ask the NRA for large sums of money. She is a disaster.

I predict One Nation will see a relatively large increase in voter base, mainly due to the attacks on the party from progressives across politics and media. The increased presence of Latham and his ability to communicate to the ordinary Australian by effectively spearing progressive nutjobbery without fear of the perpetually-offended leftist twatter sook squad will no doubt also be a factor.
Well done, Dr Frankenleftard.

It might influence her existing supporters who will see it as an attack by the status quo however it will convince the waverers theta that are nutjobs imo,
"Latham" Will be interesting to watch he doesnt have a good track record and him and Pauline may clash due to large egos although being a state MP might be seperation enough!
