I've fired guns and been around other people firing guns
and I was less than impressed with their use of safety protocols -
I would call them damn idiots.

Unfortunately some people are stupid and dangerous,
Im not a fickler for safety but there are some basic rules you ignore at your own peril

Yes - I've seen someone climb over a wire fence on a farm with a loaded rifle.
I've seen someone firing at a duck that was flying trough the air without regard to people around him -
so that the people had to dive on to the ground.
I've seen people walk along a farm with a loaded rifle & their finger touching the trigger -
if they had stumbled the rifle could have gone off.

I got fed up with crazy people who didn't listen to one word of the safety training -
so I stopped ever going hunting again.

I've seen truck drivers with a full load of petrol speeding through city streets

I've seen bus drivers rampaging down the road intimidating other drivers

I've seen obviously drunken fools driving all over the road

Guess who would do more damage

When in the Army, I once attended a pistol club shoot by a military pistol club. While there, another invitee, a civilian decided that firing a pistol wasn't his scene so he proceeded to his car boot, pulled out an M1 Carbine and then stood on the mound and let fly. He wasn't a terribly good shot either with a pistol or a rifle. He was less than politely asked to leave. None of the military members liked being around someone who carried a loaded rifle in the boot of his car. I didn't like being 'round a person who didn't believe in following the fairly simplistic safety rules of the club or range. I have seen similar things on other ranges over the years. Unfortunately, too many gun nuts think that safety is something other people need to worry about...

The hunters I have been with do not even carry loaded weapons while travelling into the hunting area.
Only when preparing to stalk do they load.

I was given training in safety protocol and weapon safety before I even held a gun.

I was also watched carefully until I demonstrated sufficient gun sense.

I do not own a gun of any sort
I do not particularly like them, I prefer bows and arrows.
But I have used rifles to shoot pigs and roos that have become a problem on friends farms
I have also shot brumbies and goats.
Only once was I chastised.
When I shot a roo that was not totally visible
It is considered cruel to wound an animal
A kill shot is always the preferred shot, even to allow the animal to escape is preferable.

I have to admit, I'm not a good shot
Probably never woukd be
If you have hunted with stupid hunters
