No Port Arthur/Christchurch style massacres. Semi-Automatic longarms/Pump-action shotguns are basically banned to everybody who isn't a professional shooter, farmer. Pistol ownership is more tightly regulated. Ownership for self-defence purposes are banned. Owners must be members of a firearms association/gun club and must shoot there regularly. Ownership generally limited to bolt action longarms and semi-automatic pistols/revolvers. Overall, it appears a great deal safer than say, the USA.

I too am happier there are fewer firearms in my society, Sprint. A lot happier.

I have never felt ill at ease with the number of type of firearm in NZ , Still dont , the only firearms they are removing are military type semi autos, Ypu can still own a pump action or auto shot gun proving it doesnt have a removable mag and can hold no more than five round, And no restriction on .22 semi autos as long as mag is under ten rounds

It is ,and there are hundreds if not thousands of 25 shot banana mags out there for all the popular brands of .22 semi. But the problem is Bob, this exercise is only partly about protecting people, its also about not criminalizing good law abiding people. and not pissing off 250000 voters , it about trying to strike the right balance, we havent had a firearms register in this country for around 30 years. the police have no idea how many guns of what type there are and who may have them
