Let's assume, he took offence, as a Christian, against Gay marriage and egged son politician extolling the virtues of being gay.

Or,
How about he took offence at that abbo shelas who wanted to burn Australia to the ground, so he egged her.

Or
He took offence at the NZ virtue signalling prime minister wearing a head scarf, so he egged her.

Or
He didn't like some prime minister cutting the dole, so he egged them.

In any of the above cases, would he be given the support and notoriety tgat he has from this little exercise in virtue signalling?

Yes, they do. However, it must also be acknowledged that Politicians say things which annoy people. They need to take responsibility for what they say. An egg is not a rifle bullet.
