An actor has been reportedly identified as one of two Iranian nationals arrested over an alleged plot to bring $36 million worth of the drug ice into Sydney.

The men aged 27 and 37, were arrested at homes in Wentworth Point and North Parramatta on Wednesday. Both have been charged.

Detectives began investigating an alleged criminal network in western Sydney in June 2018 and uncovered a number of plots to import up to 40kg of the drug from overseas, police said.

The drugs would have been worth up to an estimated $36 million on the street.

The 27-year-old man appeared at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday while the 37-year-old man is due to face the Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.

One of the men has been identified by News Corp as 37-year-old refugee Hamid Ranjbarain, who starred in a national advertising campaign to encourage Australian migrants to become small businesses owners.

A large-scale police operation has unfolded in Sydney’s southwest following two home invasions, two car jackings and a high-speed crash.

The chaos began at 7am on Saturday, when four men wearing balaclavas broke into a home on Francis Street in Fairfield.

A woman was assaulted before the men went into a granny flat and assaulted a man with an iron bar, police said.

The two victims were hospitalised after the men fled in a white Mercedes.

At 8.45am, the same four men threatened residents at a home on Anton Place, Bonnyrigg, and discharged a firearm inside. It’s not believed anyone was injured during the second home invasion.

Sometime afterwards, the Mercedes was seen driving at speeds of up to 200km/h along the M5 at Moorebank before crashing into another car at the Moorebank Avenue off-ramp and catching fire.

Two of the men carjacked a Nissan Navara 4WD while the other two fled on foot.

The Nissan was abandoned a short time later at a service station on Newbridge Road, Moorebank, before a yellow Holden Commodore was car jacked.

A man has died after being hit in the head with an axe following a fight in Sydney’s south-west overnight.

Police rushed to Sydney Luker Road in Cabramatta West following reports a man had allegedly been hit by a car and then struck with an axe by another man around 8.45pm.

When officers arrived that located a man with a serious wound to his head, who had died at the scene.

A man who was tasered to the ground after allegedly confronting police with a knife in Sydney's west this morning, has been charged over the incident.

Just before 8am, two inspectors were walking towards the front doors of Granville Police Station when they were allegedly approached by a man wielding a knife.

In footage obtained exclusively by the Nine Network, the 38-year-old Sudanese national can be seen surrounded by officers outside the Carlton Street location.
