I admit I don't know much about Michael Daley. He sounds sensible but that doesn't mean he is.
Labor's freshly-minted leader Michael Daley has called on NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to help him rein in mudslinging MPs and clean up state parliament after a tumultuous week.

The move on Sunday came a day after the Liberal MP accused of unleashing the scandal that claimed Luke Foley's leadership apologised to the reporter at the centre of the allegations.

Mr Daley spent the weekend outlining his priorities ahead of the March election following his promotion to the top position on Saturday afternoon

He won 33 of 45 votes in a caucus meeting, after Mr Foley resigned amid sexual harassment allegations while Penny Sharpe was elected unopposed as Mr Daley's deputy.

In a press conference following his victory, Mr Daley said his policy priorities would be reducing tolls on western Sydney roads, driving down energy bills through the growth of renewable energy, providing jobs to the suburbs and regions of NSW, and making Sydney more livable.

He also promised to fight the government's "wasteful" investment in stadiums and divert funds to TAFE, schools and hospitals while striking a better deal for "forgotten" regional voters.

But the new leader also wants to enforce a cleaner, less toxic political environment.

Speaking on the ABC, he said he was sick of politicians treating their roles like a football match and behaving "like buffoons in parliament".

"It is not a sport, it is serious business," he said on Sunday.

"I've sent the challenge to Gladys Berejiklian. We're not going to throw mud, we're going to concentrate on policy."

Mr Daley urged the premier to control her ministers and help him "reset the political discourse in NSW".

He also reaffirmed his support for ABC journalist Ashleigh Raper, who alleged Mr Foley put his hand through the back of her dress and groped her at a 2016 Christmas party.

Michael Daley is such a wishy washy nothing and even though I cannot stand Gladys I doubt Daley will win. Maybe Latham will shake them all up.

Daley has the personality of wallpaper.....

I thought Foley was bad enough but seriously this guy is even duller....if you want people to vote for you they have to believe in you..

aint going to happen...

well done NSW voters.....if you put them back in it will be more corruption as this guy looks a real push over for the ambitious leftards.

I don't think it is going to be comfortable at all and I cannot stand Gladys! Daley has the charisma of a dead fish.

I notice they plan to make SOME TAFE courses free over 10 years. I don't necessarily agree with their selection of courses nor do I agree with these long range plans that will probably never happen.

He will have to dig a lot deeper than that.

The control of the New South Wales Parliament after March 23 might rest on the shoulders of a right-wing crossbench in the Upper House.

In the Legislative Council, 21 seats are up for grabs and the Berejiklian Government isn't expected to win more than eight, something that could help the minor parties play a bigger role in passing legislation during the next parliamentary term.

Christian Democrat Reverend Fred Nile has for many years wielded influence, but some new names are expected to be added.

Former federal Labor leader turned One Nation candidate Mark Latham is marshalling a major campaign, along with Liberal Democrats Senator David Leyonhjelm, Senator Cory Bernardi's party the Australian Conservatives and a younger face for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party.

These groups are hoping to energise a lot of support from regional NSW and western Sydney.

Mr Latham has spent the past couple of weeks touring the state and believes there's a clear issue on the minds of voters.

"I was down in southern NSW just last week through the Murrumbidgee irrigation area and the three big issues were water, water, water," Mr Latham said.

One Nation, under Mr Latham, has a full ticket of 16 candidates, qualifying the party for above-the-line voting.

Deputy NSW Opposition Leader Penny Sharpe has been criticised for tweeting a sign depicting Premier Gladys Berejiklian as a witch and labelling her as "the Wicked Witch of the Fest".

The photo was taken at last night's Don't Kill Live Music Rally in Sydney's Hyde Park, where protestors were rallying against the State Government's new music festival regulations.

"I was at the festivals rally last night and I posted a number of signs that were there," Ms Sharpe said.

"When I looked back about 15 minutes later and saw that I posted the witch sign, I deleted it straight away because it was inappropriate."

Minister for Family and Community Services Pru Goward called for Ms Sharpe to reconsider her position.

"I can't see that there is a place in Parliament for people who treat other parliamentarians like this," she said.

"I'm particularly appalled that Penny Sharpe, with her long record of objecting to exactly this sort of behaviour, should now not be held to account for her own."

Ms Sharpe apologised to the Premier.

"All women in public life shouldn't be subject to that kind of material."

Corrections Minister David Elliott posted on social media calling for the Labor party to insist Ms Sharpe stand down.

"This woman is Labor's left-wing deputy leader and claims to be the great protector of women's right as well as an advocate for women entering public office," Mr Elliot posted on Facebook.

He shared a screenshot of Ms Sharpe's now-deleted tweet.

"What an insult that she sees fit to call the State's female Premier a 'witch'."
This from the Deputy Leader of the opposition.

This is what we get when Labor demands more women be in politics just because they are women.
