Beef or Lamb

Post by Black Orchid » Mon Mar 11, 2019 4:07 pm

A Hindu man who claims he ate beef which was mislabelled as lamb is asking for the supermarket he purchased it from to pay for his flights home to undergo a cleanse.

Jaswinder Paul told Stuff.co.nz he purchased the meat from Countdown in Blenheim on New Zealand’s South Island in September.

It was labelled as lamb but was actually beef, and he ate it. Cows are considered sacred to Hindus and can’t be consumed.

Mr Paul said he needs to be purified by priests in a process of between four to six weeks back in New Delhi, India. It will also mean he has to close his barbershop over that period.

“I understand this looks like a simple matter, but for me this is very hard. I break my religion (vows) because of someone else’s negligence,” he said.

“I know my society back from my home will not accept me with this breach of the religion’s conditions.”

A Countdown spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo7 there had been a mistake with beef mince labelled as lamb due to an error with the in-store labelling machine.

“We’re deeply sorry that this happened,” the spokesperson said.

“We very much appreciate and respect Mr Paul’s beliefs and certainly there was no intent to incorrectly label the product.

“As soon as Mr Paul contacted us in September we replaced the product and also offered him voucher as a goodwill gesture, which was declined. He contacted us last week; we’ve again indicated that we’re very sorry for what’s happened and that our earlier gesture still stands.”

Mr Paul claims he’s been offered a $200 voucher, which he refused instead wanting flights home.

The New Zealand resident is now considering legal action to receive compensation.

Whilst I sympathise about the mix up I don't agree with this religious nonsense regarding food and if you don't know the difference between looking at, or tasting, beef or lamb you shouldn't eat either.

One of my sons worked as a chef for some years

Apparently they used to substitute pork for veal in schnitzels if no veal available!

The musos and jews would have a fit it they knew!

Eating out I don't think most of us would really know what we were eating.

Cat instead of chicken in some Chinese restaurants. Dog in Vietnamese restaurants. Where there is smoke there is fire.

In some countries they disguise rat meat as lamb.

Meat is meat

Who cares

Only nutcases
I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

I watched the British "Masterchef : The Professionals" recently and the range of "meat" was different. Such as Pigeon, Deer, various other "game" stuff. :b Lamb should be served "pink", as should beef. I have always liked my steak "rare', but lamb "rare"?

Isn't it an urban myth that Chinese Restaurants use cat for chicken?

I didn't say all Chinese restaurants do it but many have been busted for it in the past and it wasn't that long ago that Vietnamese got busted for stealing pets (dogs) in the Dural area then skinning them and serving them up in their restaurant in Cabramatta.

I haven't been to a Chinese restaurant in years but when I go, I usually want Garlic King Prawns ... they would have trouble disguising those. LOL

I haven't been to one in years either and would order some sort of KING prawn dish (not those tiny farmed things in sewage) and fried rice because I can cook a mountain of white rice at home if I wanted to.

The problem north of the bridge is that you can't walk 5 steps without passing another one. No diversity at all. It's overkill.

A male friend, I have known for 30 years, used to order a Chinese take-away when he came over to "celebrate" birthday or Christmas .. or whatever. I ordered Garlic King Prawns (via email) last time and he turned up with the "usual" ... beef something or other. I have given up on him and "dinner". These days I just tell him that the "sun is over the yardarm" at 5 pm (to 6 pm) and to bring Cab Sav NOT Shiraz ... thus far this has worked. :rofl

Men!!!
