What do you think of Bernie Sanders? He's being widely mocked for describing himself as a "democratic socialist".

That "socialist" word is scary, ain't it. But you need to put the word "democratic" before it.

Denmark, Norway, Finland and Switzerland are "democratic socialist" countries. They also lead the world in education and health care.

I'm a big Trump supporter. But I'm very interested in Mr Bernie Sanders, and don't know enough about him. Thoughts, people?

Good video IQ, but I'm still a little confused.

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that the Scandanavian countries enjoy some of the highest living standards in the world, despite being "democratic socialist".

Don't get me wrong; I'm centre right, but I'm interested. Boondocker/Brad from the old Debate Relate site moved to Victoria from the USA. He changed his tune on a lot of things like health care, saying Australia was better, largely because it was more "socialist" in orientation than the States. This from a staunch Republican.

When 1% of the population have more wealth than the bottom 90%, you have to wonder.

I don’t subscribe to the “politics of envy” but in my book, when the top 1% has more wealth than the bottom 90%, I think we have a moral problem. I believe in an honest days work, for an honest days pay.

I am not particularly morally comfortable with passive income. I know this screams “socialist”, which I assure you I am not, but I believe if you want to put bread on the table, you should work for it. This applies equally to dole bludgers.

Bernie Sanders represents a new hope for the United States. He wants the country to start caring for the less fortunate, the ones left behind on the scrapheap of capitalism. He wants a better education system, a better health system, a better democracy where the needs of the people are listened to, rather than ignored. In the US, he is considered on the far left. Downunder, he'd be on the slightly left of centre of the ALP. His views are not extraordinary nor strange, just different compared to what most US Presidential candidates have claimed. He gave Hilary a run for her money in the primaries for the 2016 election, I hope he actually gets the nomination and wins. Time for some sanity to return to the White House.
