It is more likely that criminals will want to call her for their cases in court to
prove that she undermined their previous trial.
In that case they will want her alive.

The high-profile family of Nicola Gobbo, including her uncle and former Victorian governor Sir James Gobbo, have distanced themselves from the police informant.

In a statement released on Friday, Ms Gobbo's family said they knew nothing of the scandal.

"As a family, we have been disturbed by the revelations leading to the establishment of a royal commission," the statement said.

"No members of our immediate family have seen or spoken to Nicola in many years and have no knowledge of the matters to be investigated or her actions."

Even her family are making sure they are well clear.

I’m going to disagree with you on this one Black Orchid.

A fundamental lynch pin of our legal system is that everyone - even the most heinous of criminals - is entitled to a defence. That is completely undermined when the person being prosecuteds lawyer is leaking information to the prosecution.

Victoria Police has lost its latest bid to suppress the identity of Informer 3838, the lawyer whose role as a police informant at the height of Melbourne's gangland war sparked a royal commission.

This could result in the release of many dangerous and violent criminals. Informants are imperative in moving cases towards the court and subsequent convictions. If their lives are going to be put in danger who is going to step forward? Duhhh!!

Well that's the result/consequences of the supposed law enforcers committing crimes or practicing their occupation in a corrupt manner in the name of the law. It invalidates the entire concept of rule of law.

Y'see I've had to deal with coppers quit a bit down through the years, and from my experience a good/honest cop doesn't need to make false witness statements to prosecute their case. Cops that think they have to make false witness statement (and most of the old coppers do) or bend the rules, or commit outright crimes to advance their case are bent/corrupt in just about everything they do.
In this case they've used the defendants' lawyer (legal advisor and/or advocate) as an informant, thus breaching both validity of the prosecution and the lawyers professional obligations. So it doesn't matter how guilty the perpetrator is, if the prosecution can't obey the laws they impose on others, the merit of the case is hollow, and the convictions invalid.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

Agreed.

Now in my own recent experience I have corrupt Qld Police officers protecting a stolen firearms dealer, which suggest they materially benefit or are directly involved in the racket ... the character running it uses speed/ice junkies to do the B&Es and rip the gun safes out of legit firearms owner houses.
They see my knowledge of this (been going on for over 20 years) as a threat, so they've blackmailed a heap of druggies (caught dealing or growing) to become informants. So several of my neighbours and at one stage 13 co-workers were coerced into the dodgey cops' harassment regime trying to get dirt on me, but they keep failing. Most of the informants at work have left because the cops have scared them into believing I'm a dangerous character. The result is they've expended hundreds of thousands of dollars and man hours but can't touch me because I'm squeaky clean ... they can't even catch me speeding in my car.
If these cops weren't crims using other crims to do their dirty work, they'd have nothing to worry about.
And the main thing that bothers them about me, it I outwit them at almost every turn ... because they're dodgey.

The new recruits on the other hand seem much better. They do it by the book and don't have the obnoxious hardarse attitude.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

The entire legal system is more corrupt than the criminals it is supposed to work against
How many times have we heard an out crooked coppers?
How many time do judges hand out ridiculous sentences, even knowing the criminal would re-offend. One has to ask " What was in it for the judge?"

A family member of mine was arrested, doused in capsaicin spray , beaten and called for the alleged crime of beating several young men badly, blinding one.

That family member was never and could never fight well enough to even come close to doing this.

The court appointed defence, a slimy filthy individual, suggested that this family member plead guilty, cop a small sentence and then just get on with their lives.

I told him to piss off, and obtained a real lawyer for the family member at my cost.

Long story short
The cops kept delaying the case, not being prepared, not having statements etc.
Our lawyer demanded an identity check by line up.
Again the cops delayed and delayed.
Finally our lawyer stated some clause or other and said no line up by the next trial, the family member woukd be free.
The cops did the line up, all victims said none of the people put forward was involved, even when the cops pointed out the family member.

The case was dropped
I wanted to sue for false arrest
Our solicited said that it would not succeed, because the family member was charged with "The trifecta"
A nice little trick they use.
Resist arrest, assault a police officer, attempt escape from lawful custody.
They charge every person they arrest with this as an insurance.
If you beat the charge, the trifecta still stands, and it's your word against theirs.
The only way to beat it is to turn yourself in with your solicitor in attendance, they hate this.

Anyhoo, I later found out, through other people I know, that the cops were protecting an informant.
Funny though, somehow the local bikie club found out who he was.
The cops were not happy.
I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

Whilst I agree that she committed appalling breaches of her ethical obligations, which I do not condone, she was also assured that her identity and role as a police informer would remain confidential.

Say she was just Joe Blow wanting to stop mass gangland killings by informing the police? Why would anyone now put themselves in that situation knowing that some judge could just rule that their name be disclosed to the media?

What about the ATO whistleblower? He could now be facing the equivalent of 6 life sentences and his face is in the media everywhere.

Let's face it, the police need public support in order to get anything done and I can't see people coming forward in future if this is what they could expect.

So yeah we will be like China ... or the Chinese here ... who just stand back and take pics with their iPhones while someone is being stabbed or bashed because they just don't want to get involved.
