The country does not revolve around 1 area or state. 55 percent of the prison population in WA is Abos in for violent crimes., they specialise in roaming around in gangs and beating people up. And 99 percent of all aggravated burglaries in all states do not involve violence towards the home owner. Victoria Police will be given a major increase in firepower, with hundreds of semi-automatic rifles set to be issued to officers.
A total of 800 rifles will be distributed to frontline police and specialist officers within a year.
The 5.56 calibre rifles, which can be shot accurately from a distance of 300m will be used by Victoria’s Operational Response Unit, the Herald Sun reports.
Officers in Geelong, Ballarat, Morwell and Shepparton are also expected to be equipped with the rifles.
The move comes amid concerns police are being overpowered by criminals with more extensive weaponry.
Let the cops shoot a few of them and maybe they will get the message.
I can see it happening -
let's say 2 cops surrounded by a gang of 30 of them -
trying to break into their cop car and kill them.
The cops can now fight back.

when ever I have read where a cop has shot and killed someone no matter how bad that person... he is always suspended....and NO Not always on pay...but he is stood down....if I was a cop I would be terrified of being issued a rifle.... number one where do you carry it?.. on your back in the car...doesnt make a lot of sense to me...
its time really the cops out numbered the bad guys......its ok for any govt to arm the police it looks good... but does it stop the baddies.. but it is cheaper of course than employing far more police than they do.....
maybe instead of twos police should go out in 4s....even 6 at a time the gangsters know how many cops are going to turn up dont they?

at St Kilda the cops always go there in groups of 6 or more at a time.
The gangs are too powerful for just 1 or 2 cops at a time.
You have to remember that these gangs are armed to the teeth with knives and pistols.
