‘Aggravated’: Man hit with golf club as six men invade his Melbourne home overnight

A man in his 50s has been hospitalised with serious head injuries after being hit with a golf club, after a gang of six men invaded his home.

Six men who invaded a Melbourne home in the early hours and left the occupant with serious injuries are still at large after fleeing in a stolen Mercedes Benz.

A man in his 50s was hit in the head after a group of six men broke into the Maribyrnong home in the city’s inner west about 3.45am this morning, in what police are describing as an “aggravated” attack.

The man was reportedly hit with a golf club at his home on Fabian Court, according to The Herald Sun.

The group of home invaders, described by police as being African in appearance, left the scene in the owner’s white Mercedes-Benz B class wagon.

The man was taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries. Another woman was home at the time of the attack but was not injured.

A neighbour described hearing a “kerfuffle” and arguing.

“We normally don’t get anything like that here, it’s a nice neighbourhood,” said Bethany Skinner.

Other neighbours described hearing “screaming and yelling,” and the stolen car being reversed.

“The noise, the screaming, the car being reversed. They were bashing the car back and forwards into the street,” said a neighbour who called himself Vic.

It must be very scary living in certain areas of Melbourne these days.

How do these gangs "break in" to houses? Smash windows? Kick in doors? Don't people spend a few dollars to make their houses safe by having deadlocks installed (and using them) and locks on all windows and sliding glass doors, etc. If you have locks on windows they can break a window but still cannot enter because the window is locked via a key. There are safety screens you can have installed as well and I doubt anyone could break in via those.

You can't expect the Police to be cruising the suburbs looking for potential "trouble" by gangs of people of African Appearance, so you really have to take care of yourself, the best you can and that might cost you some dollars.

Better still, get rid of the culprits but I cannot see that happening any time soon!
