As long as parents teach their kids the wrong messages, schools will be expected to step in and teach the right message. Yet, it is the Tories who rail against any message being taught. Oh, well, we all know how well that works out, now don't we? (Re Sarah Palin and her daughter...).

There is no "gay school syllabus", Bobby. You make me laugh. You really do seem to fear gays under your bed, don't you? Tell me, is it OK for schools to teach Huckleberry Fin or Tom Sawyer? Afterall, both teach central lessons about the American experience and culture of the 19th century. How about The Leopard? A great Sicilian novel. How about Looking for Alibrandi a great Austalian-Italian novel? Kids learn about things from many sources. Do you want them whispering the short of bullshit that you spout, Bobby or would you rather they learnt about the realities of being Gay? I'd prefer for it all to be out in the open, rather than how you learnt about it, down the back of the shelter-sheds...

I get their point but I have noted Bobby and Valkie chucking all gays into the same category when not all of them want to punish heteros and push extreme hetero genders.

Me and my mrs for instance both express condemnation at groups wanting to push gender studies into schools. We also condemned gay marriage when there is more important issues that need to be address and as somebody as pointed out, de-facto is recognised anyway. We couldn't give two shits about a ceremony that is now obsolete.. fork out thousands of dollars for something you can do privately, and at minimal cost. What good is a piece of paper other than to wipe my arse with?

Oh, in part I agree, however I recognise, Reboot that there are many different people with many different views on these sorts of subjects. Some Gays and Lesbians want a free and easy lifestyle without commitment and others just want to be treated the same as everybody else with the same rights. Personally, I suspect anybody who wants to get married, just for the sake of getting married is doing it for the wrong reasons. Doesn't matter if they are gay or straight. Marriage is usually not a bed of roses. People have disagreements, people argue, people get angry with one another. That is life. However, denying people the right to get married if they so desire, merely because they want to marry a person the same gender as themselves is IMO wrong, at the deepest level. People are meant to be equal and to be treated equally before the law, no matter what their circumstances.
