The bodies of two men have been found after a search in flood-ravaged Townsville.
The bodies were found about midday on Tuesday as floodwaters receded in a large open stormwater drain running through the Aitkenvale Park, behind a public library.
Police say the bodies have been identified and their families notified.
The tragic find comes after Townsville police commenced a search operation for two men aged 21 and 23 who were last seen very early on Monday.
They had not been seen since the peak of the massive floods that have forced thousands of people from their homes.
The pair went missing just after an attempted break-in at a nearby Dan Murphy's liquor store at 3am on Monday.
A local resident, who did not want to be named, saw police recovering the bodies.
Man-sized pipes spill into the drain where the pair were found, he said.
"It's a direct line from Dan Murphy's to where they found them," he told AAP.
"There's a drain just outside Dan's and if they were sucked in there, they never stood a chance."
A report will be prepared for the coroner and ethical standards officers will investigate the matter.

I find no pleasure in that news......sad for their families and I believe they are so lucky no other deaths have been reported....when they open the flood gates the water becomes a raging torrent in one massive hit......it is the speed with which it travels that leaves people without a chance....
I doubt we will learn anything from this judging by whats been said on ozpol....we cant do any better..
plus its too expensive good job they didnt whine about that when they built the harbour bridge.,..
good job our forefathers didnt put up all these barriers a century ago....
personally I think saving our water resources is a much more worthy cause than the NBN will ever be....
thats where I would spend my money.. its just a thought.

Don't try and rob liquor stores during a flood.

Good Riddance...
you soon find out who the arseholes are during a natural disaster...
when places like Haiti get hit by disasters the first thing the authorities have to do is set up watch for peadophiles and child smugglers...
one of Hillary Clintons aids got caught taking children over the border... she said that she had the parents authority but she didn't...
she also used (was given) Clinton Lawyers ...

Re: Perhaps Karma?
I've been lucky with floods. Have seen a few flash floods, as a teen in Engadine they ripped up roads, at my place in the bush they're just 50 metre wide raging torrents in the usually dry creek down the back. The 2 real floods I experienced were in Bundy. During the Xmas 2010-New year's 2011 flood I was stuck in town, and the Feb 2013 flood I was unable to get in town.
For me they were a bit exciting, as I never lost anything. Just turned out to be good photo ops.
I was aware of looting in the 2010/2011 flood, arsewipes with tinnies robbing partially submerged houses.
During the 2010/2011 flood I was staying at East Bundy which eventually became an island.
Every day, even after the rain stopped in town (but not upstream) the water kept rising.
I could walk in to town for food ect via Quay St east and over the old railway bridge.
One day I'm wading along Quay St east in the rain, wearing a raincoat with my mob phone in plastic bag in top pocket, and could see down driveways and backyards to see the Burnett R raging.
At about waist deep water some people drinking beer on their front verandah said "Hey mate, you want to watch out, there's bull sharks in there". I thought "Yeah they do like shallow water" went about another 20 metres bumped into a palm frond under the surface and nearly messed myself.
Got to about chest high water, so held my phone in the plastic bag raised. Then looked up submerged Quay St east to see hundreds of people standing on the other bank of Salt water Cr beside the rowing club and the creek raging level with the old rail bridge. Even though I was a competitive endurance swimmer I thought "Well even if I don't get washed half way to New Zealand I'll probably lose my phone" so turned around.

If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
