Same in Sydney. We had several and they were all closed down because the land was valuable and the government wanted to sell them off.
So sell them off they did and I am sure they sent all the nutters home with a computer

So - where are all those nut cases?
Some are in jail & the others are out on the streets.

I wish we could put a wall up around the Eastern Subs and block the M5 tunnel.

24.6 million in Australia now and 10 million of those live in Sydney and Melbourne. So almost half of Australia's total population live in TWO cities.
I think all the scum that have been forced upon us should be shifted to SA and WA. The people there have absolutely no clue.

Sydney is great compared to Melbourne.
You don't have an African crime wave - for a start!

When I was a girl in Melbourne, we used to joke about "Kew" (the mental asylum)... now they just wander the streets.

When they closed down Heatherton Hospital - I was living in Springvale -
not far away.
All of sudden people started to appear close to the Springvale railway station and they
had one thing in common -
they would carry on conversations in the street with invisible people.
Sometimes it would be quite a big argument -
they would wave their arms around yelling and telling
the invisible person that they were wrong etc.

Many are street people now so closing down the asylums just created a whole new problem. Whether we like to believe it or not there ARE many people who really do need institutionalised care.
Not only for their own safety but for that of the general public also.

Yes - it seems that such people are having dreams while they are fully awake.
Just as you might talk to someone in a dream and they talk back -
it happens for them when they are awake.
They shouldn't be on the streets.

The ones who walk along having imaginary conversations seem pretty harmless (loud but harmless) but who knows? I give people like that a very wide berth.
