I have no idea
because you let it get dragged in that direction is my best guess and since your standards are so sloppy people just follow on... because you allow that to happen.

Don't blame me for stuff you allow to happen I just try to keep my topics on topic, I hardly have the right to do it to others and btw sometimes when I do make a comment some smart arsed biased admin fails to back me. :thumb

ALL threads end up going off topic in some form or another. It is the degree that matters. Don't be so anally retentive about things that you yourself indulge in and trivial comments that may be slightly off topic.

National Assessment Program - Programme for International Student Assessment

Every three years, a sample of Australian students are chosen to participate in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which is an ongoing part of Australia's National Assessment Program (NAP).
What is PISA?

PISA is an international assessment administered by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) that aims to assess how well 15-year-old students can apply the knowledge and skills they have learned at school to real-life problems and situations. It is not a test of how well students understand the Australian Curriculum.
Why does Australia participate in PISA?

PISA is part of the National Assessment Program, which is used to monitor and report on student achievement in a comparable and consistent way.

By participating in PISA, schools and students are contributing to an important 'health check' on the performance of Australia's education system in key learning areas and in 21st century skills like collaboration and problem-solving. Participating in PISA also provides data that shows how equitable the Australian schooling system is at the national and state and territory levels.

Results from international assessments such as PISA can be used to analyse how not only Australia but other countries' performance changes over time. This, along with information from the background contextual surveys that accompany the tests, allows the Australian Government to identify some of the similarities and differences between education systems that can be used to develop policies aimed at delivering better outcomes for students.
Where are PISA results reported?

About 540,000 students across 72 countries and economies participated in the most recent cycle of PISA, PISA 2015. Data from all cycles of PISA for Australian and all other participating countries are available through the OECD's PISA website.

Australian governments together contract a National Project Manager to administer the test. For PISA 2015, the Australian Council for Education Research was appointed. The Australian national report, PISA 2015: Reporting Australia's results, is available for download through its website.
How are PISA results reported?

For each cycle of PISA, Australia publishes results in the three main areas tested—reading, mathematical and scientific literacy—at both the national and the state and territory level.

A breakdown of our national results is also provided to show how students in different demographic groups are achieving.

For each of the three main areas tested, the PISA national report shows the results for students who are Indigenous or who come from an immigrant or non-English speaking background. It also compares the performance of students by gender, the school sector they attend (government, Catholic, or Independent), where their school is located (metropolitan, regional or remote), and the socioeconomic background of their families.

All information collected in PISA is de-identified so that no student or school that sits PISA will be identified when Australia's results are publicly reported.

Regular monitoring for improved education systems

Conducted on a three-year cycle since 2000, and focusing on students as they near the end of compulsory schooling, PISA results assist governments in a multitude of countries to regularly monitor educational outcomes against a common framework.
Australian and global comparisons

By participating in the OECD's PISA, Australia receives an opportunity to compare student performance on a global scale, independently of school curriculum, providing insights to help continually improve our own education system both in comparison to other countries, and in relation to previous results – ensuring we strive for ongoing improvements in equity and learning outcomes for all future Australian students.

I wonder what the Tories have been doing during their years in power that this downward trend has been observed? Mmmm?

Of course, there could be an alternative explanation - Australian education standards have not necessarily slipped. Other nation's education standards have improved while ours have remained stationary. Of course, it's all the teachers' fault. Bunch of left-wingers, the lot of them, hey? Care to explain what tenants of the Left tell us that we must teach our children how not to figure, how not to write and how not to read? Sounds to me more like what the Right believes - ignorance according to them is bliss, right?

I think this deserves further review
Can you imagine the repercussions if teachers actually taught kids?

No, seriously
Imagine this
We could send our kids to school to be taught to read, and write and even do math.

What an idea.
Teachers actually teaching serious life skills like
Being able to read, they could read so much information and get better at doing things.

Being able to write, they could learn to communicate and actually pass on ideas and thoughts, perhaps even engineering or manufacturing ideas.

Being able to do math, they could work out how much things actually cost, that living on the dole means other people have to pay.
Hell, they might even be able to contribute to society.

Yep, it's a radical plan, too radical some teachers may say.
T.hey believe that understanding the 72 different sexes, flawlessly navigating the PC minefield and emasculating the males in our country is more important.

TEACHERS SHOULD TEACH, NOT PONTIFICATE.

OR IS THAT TOO HARD FOR THE POOR DEARS?
I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

The one that says the least can often have a very different perspective and hold the answer. The least qualified person may hold the most wisdom. When you don’t have knowledge or experience blocking your perspective, you can see problems and solutions.
