Saw the tail end of a report last night, and its really bad RM..we are pledging help/funds etc as is Obama..but as with all earthquakes its catastrophic and loss of human life is devastating.
After a couple of days the chances of finding survivors becomes slim...and then reverts to a recovery situtation.

And of course ele it is your reviled storm troopers, the Evil Empire, the Dark Side of the Force, the US military that is comming to the rescue.

Cynik hates the US military, they are all killers, we don't need them.

I see Swiss tax dodgers are really a lot of help in Hati right now.

The US with Obama in charge is proving a dog of a somewhat different colour, I agree.

The US military provides disaster relief some where many times every year regardless of the President, it conducts long term construction and aid projects every day of the year, every year, some where and has for decades.

There have been many instances where America has stepped in to stop genocides, ethnic cleansing and wanton slaughter , as well as provide distaster relief. Australia has also given of itself in many wars/situations as well.

Washington

The marines are about to hit the shores of Port-au-Prince – an arrival that would almost certainly send shivers up spines anywhere else in Latin America.
But amid the Haitian earthquake relief effort – in a country that has no military of its own and has hosted an international peacekeeping force since 2004 – the arrival is unlikely to cause many ripples among locals.

Yet the dispatch of some 2,200 marines – as well as 3,500 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division – is raising some command and assignment questions.

When the troops arrive, perhaps this weekend, who will be in charge, given that the Haitian government is almost disintegrated and the 9,000-strong UN peacekeeping force, MINUSTAH, is dealing with its own losses?

US navy helicopters are evidently being a big help in doing food drops to people. Canada also evidently sent very early help.

Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush and Jimmy Carter have all offered their services.

Clinton will help with humanitarian aid, Bush with security and Carter with zombie dead undead affairs.

By the way, if a zombie dies in an earthquake does it come back to normal life?

Imagine the relief the Military could provide, if they didn't have to invest billions of dollars into their weapons of mass destruction

Well Boxy (I wrote that in a Ronald Reagan voice) I too would like all weapons spending finished, but until you can get every country on Earth to agree, indeed every company or person, it is not likely to happen nor is it wise. I really don’t want to disarm and turn Kim Jung IL or that ranting Mullah lover in Iran into the world’s only nuclear superpowers.
