Things have vastly changed since you were at school Nef, or even your daughter.

I went to a private school too because that is what my parents wanted. It wasn't because the public system had been hijacked by progressive lunatics and spiralled down in world rankings. In fact, the public system was very good then, it was just their choice.

You can't expect things to be the same as when you were a kid because they're not and the public system now SUCKS!

In Sydney, perhaps, Black Orchid. The public school system in Canberra however, OTOH, is excellent. My nephews both grew up in Canberra and went through the public system and both have now, PhDs and are working quite happily in their chosen professions. My kids when younger spent two years in the public school system in Canberra and performed well. We then went to Perth. Perth's public system sucks - not because of "progressive lunatics" but because of conservative lunatics. The Tories have destroy the public system in Perth. They have sucked so much money out of the school system here, in order to fund their waste of public money football stadium, it has ruined the system here. Schools they have shut are going to have to be reopened because of demand. Schools made "independent" are full of idiots who believe that makes it possible for them to bully students and parents. Private schools are flourishing as a consequence. Rather than take charge of their schools, parents are abandoning them to the ravishes of Tories.

This is why more and more people choose to send their kids to a private school. The public system is crap since all the progressive socialists have infiltrated and taken over.

Private schools are crap. The only major difference a child finds between a Private and a Public school nowadays is the quality of the drugs they are offered.

Private schools teach elitism, they teach students to belittle and attack Public students.

As far as I am concerned, parents should be allowed to send their kids to Private schools as long as they pay for their education, completely. No putting of public funds into Private Schools at all. You opt out, then you pay all the costs. Simples really.

Much better than the Public purse paying for capital works at Private Schools, putting up all those private assets which the school can then profit from.

Really? Where is the proof you have that I speak, "absolutely rubbish", Black Orchid? Personally, I have experienced private school and public schools. I swore I would never send my kids to private schools and for good reason. I had no desire for my kids to be bullied, to be taught to belittle kids in Public schools. I'd have preferred to educate my kids myself rather than do that. Luckily we found several Public schools which satisfied us. Unusual, I know but true. Our kids have all come out well mannered, intelligent, smart and politically aware and active.

Australia has been ranked 39 out of 41 countries from the European Union (EU) and OECD in levels of quality and inclusion education for children, according to a report card released by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday.
