You don't need a gun or a knife to be brave or to be a hero.
There's a very thin line between becoming a hero, or becoming a memory.
Ive managed to survive all these years without walking around the place having to be armed to the hilt. Paranoia is where your line is fuzzy.

Yeah,

But survival isn't living, is it.

Running away from everything, playing the coward.

Rather be prepared and never have to use a weapon

than needing a weapon and not having one.

I would rather be standing in court explaining why my attacker was in hospital or the morgue.

Than having my family gathered around my grave while the attacker sits in court playing the victim card about how bad his life was and how he was too, drunk, drugged, stressed or stupid to know he killed me.

I have not been in many altercations, but when I was, it was no holds barred, this is usually sufficient to have the cowardly attacker run away.

And if my family is ever attacked, there will be nowhere far enough for him/ her or it to run.

I have not been in many altercations,
No kidding, worked that one out from the get go. The ones who talk the big talk are generally quite inexperienced.

And you have been in many eh?

I am a trained martial artist, sho-dan
I have trained many other martial artists as well as women and children in self defense.
I fought competitively for 6 years, With only marginal success, I started late and was fighting many younger and fitter fighters.
I was undefeated in knife fighting, but was absolutely lousy with nunchucks, hated the damn things.
But I was passable with a Boe Staff and Sai.

We practiced group fighting and attacks regularly, and I have had my nose broken several times.
My jaw has been broken twice and most of my fingers have been impacted, I will have arthritis as I get older.
I fight with open hands, looking to grab or hold my opponent, to lock him up and subdue him, hence fingers get injured.
But these have all been in controlled fights with opponents who will stop is asked.
On the street, this will not happen, does not happen.

As martial artists, we do not go looking for fights, unless you are a moron, and morons seldom stay with any Dojo as the instructors do not need morons and suggest they leave, sometimes forcibly.

The only altercations I have been involved with outside the ring have been where I cannot talk my way out of it.
I have nothing to prove, I have fought some of the best in the world. Not won many, but still I have done myself proud in most cases.
In the few I have had, I walked away, not my attacker or attackers.
I have been lucky, the most were three on me at once, two of who were too drunk to be a problem.

To me fighting is a sport, but a sport that is also a weapon.
I don't go for the fancy high or spinning kicks.
I have no intention of closing with my attacker and allowing him to grab or strike me.
Kicks are to the legs, knees, groin, and sweeps.
Any strikes are simply follow through from blocks or locks

But cowards like you have no idea of how to fight
you are the targets for bullies, you are the ones they pick on.

Yes, I have had few altercations outside the ring
because they see no fear in me when they approach.
I give them an out, not acting threateningly and apologizing for any perceived wrongs.
But when they attack, I do not hold back, all three fights were over in less time that you can count to 10, one less than 2.

I enjoyed my martial arts.
I was average, not great, but against the uninitiated, I can easily hold my own.

My bet is that a coward like you has never been in a real fight.

Valkie,
never underestimate your opponent.
If a big guy gets hold of you he can be so strong that you
can't escape his wrestling hold - he'll crush you.
Even if you punch him - he's a moving target &
you might only hurt him and make him even more angry.
If a little guy king hits in just the right spot you're also gone.

Best bet - stay out of trouble -
don't drink in public bars or walk around at night
if you know gangs are out there.

My experience with fighting is that it's like tossing a coin -
it's 50/50 as to whether you'll win.
Then if you give someone a knockout punch you could kill them &
end up on the run from the cops.
Even though you were in the right & just defending yourself
it can go against you in court from false evidence & perjury -
as life is full of injustices.

Every animal in nature uses some sort of a weapon -- venom, teeth, claws, beak, horn, hooves. Humans do not have weapons by birth, that is why we need to use one artificially created.
The one that says the least can often have a very different perspective and hold the answer. The least qualified person may hold the most wisdom. When you don’t have knowledge or experience blocking your perspective, you can see problems and solutions.

Precisely why I avoid fights, when I can.

But sometimes you have no choice, for any number of reasons.

I fight to win, I do not allow my attacker to close.

A good hard side kick to the knee or a snap kick to the groin usually takes down even the biggest attacker.

Then, while he is on the ground, finish him so he cant get up.

There are no rules fighting on the street

And if you need to use a knife, don't wave it around, the attackers should never see it.

Ideally, he should wonder where all the blood is coming from.

I enjoy fighting in competition, I avoid street fights like the plague.
But that don't mean I wont if needs be.
