""They claim they are fleeing crime and lawlessness, BigP. Both are IMO good reasons to claim to be a Refugee and seek Asylum in another country. Under the UN Convention there is nothing about "country shopping" or anything else which can be used to prevent an Asylum Seeker claiming Asylum.""
They dont get to choose the country Brian , They need to follow the rules regarding the aplication for refugee status

The UN is not only inept but calculatedly corrupt in their intent. We need to pull out.

we would be better to spend the money the UN costs... and develop these countries people are fleeing..
think of what the boat people could do for a country like Honduras!
well its just a thought.

I totally agree. I am all for spending whatever money it takes to help these countries. Most of those fleeing are young virile men who should be staying at home and helping to develop and build their own countries.
Western secular countries are being overwhelmed by mass immigration of people who do not share western values.
Help them to STAY in their own countries and fight for what they believe in on their own soil.

at last I have been beating the drum about the UN making their countries safe for them rather than mass immigration for years....
at last some agree with me... I am thrilled....... its only the beginning sprint be positive.
maybe I will write to the UN and tell them what they should be doing.,,,,,they encourage this migration and tell countries what they should do about it.....who the hell are these voting UN members??? are they people whos countries are not being swamped by migrants..?? like Arabs for instance... its like their cheek isnt it?... we will tell you what to do... but dont you dare tell us what to do...
w\here is brian am I pretty sure he has an argument against all that...

Re: Trump will close Mexico border
The UN has no power to do anything. It is reliant on the member states to come to a decision and to provide the forces to enforce that decision. I am unsure why people continually assume the reverse. I am unsure why people assume that the UN is a potential world overlord.
The UN's predicament is compounded because it consists of four separate elements - the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Secretariate and the organisational members. The Security Council is where the great powers dwell and decide on what they will support and what they will veto. Occasionally they agree, such as when the UN Security Council authorised peace enforcement action against Saddam's Iraq in 1990. More often they don't. The General Assembly is where everybody else gets to hang out. It makes a lot of noise but has no power. The Secretariate is the mob who organises the Security Council and the General Assembly. It has no power. The organisational members are the various subsidary organisations which have been charged with actually carrying out civil aide programmes - when member countries allow them to. Overall, from the world's perspective, only the Security Council and the organisational members matter. The UN is kept perpetually short of cash, as well. No single country provides the amount of money required of it to fund the UN properly.
