BILL Shorten last week dismissed as “nonsense” my story revealing that Labor’s new party platform includes plans to erase gender from birth certificates and passports.

“No plans to do that … I just wonder why conservatives get so obsessed by other people’s sexuality”, he said in a nasty exercise in psychological projection.

No, it is Shorten’s Labor Party which is obsessed with sexuality. In Labor’s final draft national platform for its December 16 conference, there are more than 300 references to sexuality. There are 64 mentions of “sexual orientation”, 59 of “intersex”, 42 of “LGBTI”, 36 of “transgender”, 33 of “bisexual”, 31 of “lesbian” and 29 of “gay”. “Sex” appears 182 times.

The platform adopts entirely the “Yogyakarta Principles on the Application of International Human Rights Law in relation to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics” which includes the erasure of gender on all official identity documents, among other radical social changes.
