Being in IT for a great many years my job was always about continuous improvement... six sigma was a pathetic, overly structured, waste of time as far as I was concerned.

I agree to some extent.
Six sigma simply takes good management tools and uses them.
But achieving the black belt is not easy, try it.

Additionally, it is very highly regarded by American companies ( my primary reason for doing it)

In 40 plus years of working through several jobs, I have never had a resume.
Never had to apply for work and never done the interview rounds.
Every job I have had has been because I have been head hunted, except for the last one which an old associate talked me into and made an offer I could not refuse, and my first when I was offered an apprenticeship.

Yep the yanks are dopes though, and Toyota can keep Lean...... Lean management and Six Sigma share similar methodologies and tools. Both programs are Japanese-influenced, but they are two different programs. Lean management is focused on eliminating waste and ensuring efficiency while Six Sigma's focus is on eliminating defects and reducing variability. Been there done both.... years ago... also became Quality Control Coordinator/Manager along with my regular job. I already had years in documentation, training and process development etc... been project manager of many projects and passed Cert IV in Assessment and Training.
Since I'd already been doing my own versions for many years I found it an unnecessary burden, mine is much more streamlined, much like companies introducing ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library)these days... I already had my own version of that too.

Yeah, there are lots and lots of "Systems" that suit ever need, sort of.
What's the old saying expert at everything master at none.
Every system has flaws, some more expensive than others.

Early in my career there was Kan Ban, Pronto, and others I can't even remember.
One used to take all night to refresh for the next days planning
Then it took a full day to fix the mistakes.

Every company is searching for the holy trail of systems.
A shame there ain't one.

Aussies are more advanced than the yanks when it comes down to it.
And from an engineering perspective, they ain't all that great either.
I got my job in the states because I brought a company out of receivership to profitable in two years.
But it was not all that hard
Stick to what you know and don't go off on tangents.

Only stayed in the states for a few years
Too much politics and bullshite.

Besides, a company in Finland made me a great offer.
