Australian funnel-web spiders are among the most deadly arachnids in the world, and researchers have now discovered they can even be used to kill certain cancer cells.
The QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute study found peptide — extracted from the venom gland of the Darling Downs funnel-web spider and chemically synthesised — has anti-cancer properties that can kill melanoma cancer cells in humans and stop them spreading.
It also has a profound effect on Tasmanian devil facial tumour cells. The compound, which also proved highly effective at treating Tasmanian devil facial tumour cells, could form the basis of new cancer treatments.
Queensland lead researcher Dr Maria Ikonomopoulou said the peptide was tested in laboratory experiments against a similar compound from a Brazilian spider, and she was shocked it had such a profound effect.
"It's very exciting," she said.
"We found the Australian funnel-web spider peptide was better at killing melanoma cancer cells and stopping them from spreading, and it also didn't have a toxic effect on healthy skin cells."

Huntsmen kill Funnelwebs.
But that is really interesting re melanoma and cancer. Just had a friend get her breasts removed due to cancer and she has to go back and have her lymph nodes removed too.

I actually believe that cancer has been cured.
But, because it's a very very profitable disease, it will never be released.
Think about it
Cancer research is given trillions of dollars each year
People donate billions more
But drug companies make trillions from the sale of cancer drugs, that don't actually cure, but allow them to suck more money from the poor dying sods.
Then there are the grubberments
They get money from the doctors fees
They get money from drug companies both in bribes and tax
And
They ensure that people die after they have worked all their lives nd are no longer paying taxes.
Can't have people getting pensions can We?
Or people who have saved some money that the grubberments want and when they die they get their cut.
No cancer will never be cured
Its far to profitable, trust me.
I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

Cancer, cured? No, I don't think so. "Cancer" is a descriptive word for a whole range of different diseases. They vary in many of the ways they attack the body and are also similar, many do so by over-replicating, destroying the part of the body they infest and spreading. They can be contagious (HPV - which I note we are starting to get on top of), HIV, etc. That they are given different names obscures they all come under the heading of "Cancer" in the medical dictionary.
We will more than likely never cure "Cancer" - there will always be new mutations, new diseases which use similar tactics to attack the body. We won't cure "Cancer" until we learn to make ourselves new bodies. A remote possibility at the moment but it will be found by people far smarter than me and a completely different life form to you, Valkie. Tsk, tsk.

I had always thought that cancer was a fairly "modern" thing. However, when I was researching my Paternal Scottish Genealogy, I found a death certificate for my Great Great Great Grandfather's niece and it stated that she died from "cancer", age 48 in 1845. It didn't say what sort of cancer but being Scottish, I doubt it was melanoma, besides that was probably not known 170 years ago.
Oh, and funnel web spiders are the scariest things .... we had lots of them in the back garden when we lived in St Ives. Yikes!

Oh, dearie, dearie, me. Tut, tut, there, there, Valkie. You invite insults with every post you make. You attack everybody who isn't White, Anglo-Saxon/Celtic/Nordic descended colonial stock and you claim to have no qualms when you do so. Could it be you asking for forgiveness for your reprobate ideals? When you cease being a Racist/Xenophobic/Islamophobic/Sectarian bigot, you might find me friendlier. Until then, trot back along to your little kiddies' playground.
