A man allegedly brandishing a knife and making bomb threats has been shot by police at Nepean Hospital in Sydney’s west.

He is now undergoing emergency surgery as the medical precinct remains in lockdown.

The victim was not a patient, but a man who confronted police just outside the emergency department.

It’s believed he began making threats before police turned to lethal force.

He survived with a stomach wound and is now being treated inside the hospital.

“There were people everywhere, we got instantly put into lockdown, and then they gave us a 10 minute gap to evacuate,” witness Demi Gregory said.

The man’s threats were said to have included a reference to a bomb, possibly in a car outside.

Witnesses said there was mass confusion and panic.

“I couldn’t really make out what the guy was saying because he was screaming, I just heard the cops screaming at him to get down on the ground,” one person said.

As police searched the area, the hospital was placed in lockdown and all ambulances diverted to other hospitals.

Amazing how your prejudice fills in all those gaps, doesn't it, "Nicole"? Tut, tut, nothing about the identity of the culprit, nothing suggesting his religion or anything in the original report. What a shame you need to let your Islamophobia run riot, hey?

Islamic 'Bonnie and Clyde' face Sydney court charged with planning a terrorist attack.

A married couple who referred to themselves as the "Islamic Bonnie and Clyde" have been charged with conspiring to plan a terrorist attack.

Sameh Bayda and Alo-Bridget Namoa, both 19, were already on remand for terrorism-related charges when their charges were upgraded to conspiracy to prepare or plan a terrorist act during a hearing at Sydney's Central Local Court today.

Court documents revealed the pair was allegedly conspiring to use a knife or knives to carry out a stabbing attack.

The charge is based on allegations levelled at them when they were arrested early last year.

Bayda is already accused of collecting documents in Arabic containing instructions on how to make an improvised explosive device and how to carry out a stabbing attack.

Namoa, a Muslim convert of Catholic-Tongan heritage, is accused of recklessly possessing a hunting knife and Islamic flag, as well as instructions in Arabic on how to make a detonator for an improvised explosive device.

They have been in custody since the beginning of last year.

Namoa was also previously convicted for refusing to answer questions about her husband's charges in the NSW Crime Commission.

The questions put to Namoa included references to a text message conversation she had with Bayda in which she used the term "Islamic Bonnie and Clyde".

According to court documents, she was also asked about Islamic State propaganda, whether her husband gave her a knife, and whether he was planning to martyr himself.

In a statement, NSW Police said the couple had their charges upgraded as part of an ongoing investigation known as Operation Chillon.

"Today's charges follows an extensive investigation by officers from the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team and ongoing consultation with the Commonwealth DPP," NSW Police said.

"The charge carries a penalty of life imprisonment."

Bayda and Namoa did not appear in court during the brief hearing and will remain in custody.

Their case will return to court on March 15.

In another incident, a Lakemba resident was stabbed in an alleged attempted robbery after listing a phone for sale. Police say the 41-year-old victim was at his home on Taylor Street at 9.10pm when another man attended the house and tried to leave without paying for the phone, brandishing a knife. A scuffle broke out and the victim received cuts to his hands and neck.

The man with the knife left the phone then fled the scene with another male who was waiting outside, police say. The victim was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.

Almost half a tonne of MDMA hidden in sausage-making machines has been intercepted by Australian Border Force officers in Sydney, with three people arrested over the incident.

Described as a "sophisticated concealment", the drugs, worth $57 million, were found hidden in the machines in containers in Sydney last month.

If pressed into ecstasy pills, the AFP said the drugs would make 1.7 million pills.

A "controlled delivery" was then conducted by the AFP, where the drugs, which originated from Turkey, were replaced with fake drug packages.

The container was delivered to a supermarket in Auburn, however police said they believed the supermarket owners were unaware that the container, which also contained chocolate bars and air fresheners, had MDMA inside.

AFP then arrested three men on Saturday at a industrial business in Clyde, in Sydney's west.

Officers said the three men were part of a "larger syndicate" supplying drugs to the Sydney market.

The men, who appeared in court yesterday, are facing life sentences.

3 in their 20s arrested and I wouldn't mind betting they are on DSP.

When I left Sydney back in December 1980 it was a nice City, full of life ... not that I would walk around after dark, or leave my door open. However, in the 38 years Sydney is somewhere I wouldn't feel very safe in. I wouldn't walk around after dark here either, or leave the door open. Sad, isn't it?
