ABC board members appointed by Fifield despite being rejected by merit-based panel
So they picked a bunch of people that they thought would bring the ABC to heel ?
'bout time the selection process was bi-partisan (include the Opposition in the "negotiations").
Perhaps we should start a "Senate selection panel" for confirmation of candidate a la the US. Would cramp the Government of the day wonderfully.
Problem of funding is still there - "death by starvation" - that would need to be sorted out.
OPINION ABC battlefield is littered with casualties but nobody has been willing to take the blame
Perceptive article....
Meanwhile
ABC board member Dr Kirstin Ferguson nominated as acting chairperson
Wonder how/if it will work out ?

Labor and the Greens are very happy about the ABC which is always why they are so quick to defend them. Missed that too did you?

The Senate was formed originally as a "states' rights" house - where legislation could be reviewed from the perspective of the various states to make sure no one had the dirty done on them. Since then it has become simply a house of review. Nowadays it has started to become a representative house as well.
Personally, I like the Senate - as a house of review. Without it, we would end up like Queensland - a unicameral parliament which means legislation will always be passed and rarely reviewed. The Senate at least makes sure that legislation is reviewed and amended when the House gets it wrong.
Sometimes they get it wrong, no one is perfect. Most times they act responsibly and get it right. Means the electorate has two bites on the cherry where legislation is concerned and it means that the Government, more often than not, has to negotiate it's legislation past the House of Review.

No one is perfect, Cods, not even you. Everybody makes bad decisions. The Senate sometimes makes big mistakes. However, generally they contribute to the decision making process and more often than not get it right.
That the ABC is generally right seems to be shown in that the overwhelming majority of Australian views/listeners trust it as the best news source in the Australian media. Who do they turn to when they hear of a disaster/political upheaval/etc.? The ABC. Which must piss the fringe-element critics of the ABC off enormously. The ABC is more reliable and much better than the commercial outlets without a doubt. It is a shame that the political parties have become so thin skinned about criticism.

That's an outright lie Brian. Where do you come up with these fantasies?
Channel 7, for 11 years running, holds the top spot. Followed by Channel 9.

Seriously are you on drugs?

https://mumbrella.com.au/abcs-news-curr ... -14-503072ABC’s news and current affairs slate builds audience share to 14%. But it wasn’t enough to defeat Nine and Seven, with shares of 24.2% and 21.1% respectively.
