MALCOLM Turnbull reportedly offered Peter Dutton the position of deputy Liberal leader in a last-ditch attempt to stop a leadership challenge.

In the dying days of his prime ministership, Mr Turnbull went to Mr Dutton and offered him the deputy role, believing this would keep him from bringing on a leadership spill, according to The Courier-Mail.

The role had been occupied by Julie Bishop for almost a decade, suggesting he was willing to call for a party room vote to replace her with Mr Dutton.

The Home Affairs Minister turned down the offer because he believed he had the backing of Liberal MPs to seize Mr Turnbull’s job.

Mr Turnbull was forced to stand down last month after days of leadership turmoil and Scott Morrison went on to beat both Mr Dutton and Ms Bishop in the final party room vote.

Mr Morrison dismissed The Courier-Mail’s report morning, saying Australians couldn’t care less.

“I’ve been elected to lead the Liberal Party which means that I am leading the country as Prime Minister, that’s what matters,” he told Sunrise. “All the rest of it, people can write books about it if they want, they can tweet about it, they can put it on Facebook, they can even do something on Instagram if they like.

“I’m focusing on what matters and what happens and what Australians need me to focus on.”

What exactly is it that Australians couldn't care less about? Both sides continually knifing each other? :roll:

Today’s National Accounts figures contain good news.

Australia’s economy grew at 3.4% through the year, stronger than at any time since 2012, which was during the height of the mining boom.

Australia is growing at a faster rate than any G7 economy in the world and well above the OECD average.

This means more Australians are finding work – 412,000 jobs were created in 2017, the best growth in jobs numbers on record.

In addition, 95,200 young Australians found work in 2017-18, which is the best result in a financial year in nearly 30 years.

The unemployment rate has also declined to 5.3 per cent in July, the lowest level since November 2012.

There is more to be done and some parts of Australia are doing it tough, particularly rural and regional areas impacted by the drought.

By keeping the economy strong we will continue to generate more jobs and guarantee the essential services Australians rely on.

Today’s results are another example of how our economic plan is working.

Today marks five years since Tony Abbott led the Liberal Party to victory into a Coalition Government with the Nationals.

Since then, under Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull and Julie Bishop as Deputy Leader, we’ve made a lot of progress for our nation. For a list of achievements, click here.

Australia’s economy is growing at its strongest rate since 2012. This is because we’ve put in place policies to back small businesses, boost exports, build infrastructure and bring the Budget back to balance.

As a result, more Australians are finding work, with 1,088,600 new jobs created in five years – more than half of these full time jobs. And we have legislated tax relief to encourage and reward working Australians.

A stronger economy means we can guarantee essential services. For example, we are doubling hospital funding (from $13.3 billion in 2012-13 to $28.7 billion in 2024-25), funding more life-saving medicines and fully funding the NDIS.

We are keeping Australians safe by stopping the boats, cancelling the visas of dangerous criminals, boosting our security agencies and rebuilding our Defence Force.

As your new Prime Minister I know there is much more to be done. Together, we can build an even stronger Australia – keeping our economy strong, keeping Australians safe and keeping Australians together.

Yours sincerely,

Scott Morrison
Prime Minister

Turnbull stated that the Turnbull Government was indeed the Turnbull Progressive Liberal Party.

People are hoping Scott Morrison will turn the Titanic around and offer hope to those Turnbull disenfanchised.

He has the time, but only time will tell as to how successful he will be.

The expulsion of Turnbull from the Liberals has been coming since he decided to join a party he has no real relationship with nor with whose grassroots membership he cannot relate to. His only ambition in politics was to be PM.
Labor rejected him, the Libs were foolish enough to enable him, he "stabbed" 2 leaders in the back, then turned the Liberals a centre-right conservative party into a centre-left progressive party. Members have been leaving in droves under his leadership, idiots like Mark textor seemed to think it didn't matter who led the party or the policies they supported. WRONG!!!!!

Great Scott has been our exalted Leader for over a week, see the result already.
.................. Standard and Poor’s has removed its negative outlook on Australia’s AAA sovereign credit rating, greatly reducing the risk of a near-term downgrade by the group.
It says the stable outlook reflects an expectation that Australia’s budget will return to surplus by the early 2020s.
It says the rating could come under pressure again if house prices fall sharply.
A downgrade to Australia’s AAA credit rating is no longer a near-term threat with Standard and Poor’s (S&P) revising its outlook from “negative” to “stable” today.

“The stable outlook reflects our expectations that the general government fiscal balance will return to surplus by the early 2020s,” the ratings agency said in a statement. ..................

Credit rating agencies are full of bullshit. They caused the GFC and were totally discredited by it. Yet, now, we have them back again, making the world dance to their tune. Tut, tut.

Were you prepared to give all of the following a "fair go," Cods?

Kevin Rudd;
Julia Gillard;
Kevin Rudd;
Tone Rabbit;
Malcolm Trumble?

A simple YES/NO will suffice.
