Re: New electric bike
Took it out yesterday, it is really good. I can ride faster and further than my wife.
With her on the E bike and me on a normal bike, we have a much more enjoyable ride.
More at the pace I like, she 'paces' her exertion by using the battery.
The e bikes only add power when you are pedalling. If you are not pedalling they don't add any power.
It's called 'pedal assist'.
You can select 5 different levels of power to assist you, "Off", 'eco', 'touring', 'sport', 'turbo'.
They range from a 50% assistance to a 270% assistance.
It is speed limited to 25 km/h for any pedal assist. You can go faster under your own power or downhill.
Also has 'walk assist', limited to 4 km/h.
Has a Bosch battery and motor, Shimano derailleur gears and disc brakes.
It's designed as a commuter/tourer/shopping bike. Full mudguards, carrier, can put panniers on it.
I've commuted/toured/shopped on a bike using panniers.
Once you have all this, the need for a car drops a lot.

Isn't an electric bike cheating?

sounds like thousands of dollars to me...
the last time I took my mrs out on a bike she fell off...
she hasn't been back on the bike since... she maybe rode the brand new bike like 4 times..
I was watching this guy the other day

Re: New electric bike
I had that sort of feeling.
I guess if it is not a race, it is not cheating.
It does not 'feel' like cheating.
They are a lot of fun and enable further/faster cycling activities with less muscular/tendon strain.

I have a damaged spine and 3 damaged cartlige in my back
One bump and it's off to hospital for me.
Even cars mean short distances with multiple stops.
