I personally think its madness......in the hands of the wrong people...??????? what could go wrong?

anyway can anyone explain what is the point of making plastic guns???....unless it is to commit a crime?...

we are after all talking AMERIKA... where they put the real McCoy under the Christmas tree for the kids.....

why would you make a plastic gun...???

even a plastic knife has limited uses...

They showed 3D printed pistols being fired on TV.
The whole pistol exploded into many pieces.
It's all nonsense - it's a dangerous toy with no practical use.
It's more likely to injure the person who fires it than hurt anyone else.

Significant improvements in material design will reduce this. People don't have access to the best materials.

A sub-sonic 22 hollow point will do the job and is not a big explosion.

Now you are just being silly , Its one thing talking about printing a few components for a 22 rimfire handgun, then moving on to printing a type 56 aks

Cods Im an engineer and I have a strong knowledge of fireamrs and 3d printing, It would be easier to buy weapons on the black market than to find someone with the printer tech to make you an inferior/likely to blow up on you copy and will be for the foreseeable future

Anyone with a machine shop could make a proper gun out of steel.
This is all a storm in a tea cup.

Your average home 3d printer is not up to the task of printing hanguns, at a minimum you'd want something that could print carbon fiber reinforced, then as Yogi pointed out there will be issues regarding barrels, springs etc,,
Excellent point. ... springs that is .... what do you suggest they improvise with SN? ... elastic bands?

How about a single shot or 2 barrels with a 22 hollow point.

Plastic can support this sort of gun.
It's feasible, yes. But structurally unsound ... don't know if I'd be game enough to hold it when firing it.

Well if I wanted to make a plastic gun I'd use industrial nylon machined in a lathe and milling machine ... but I'd still need a steel spring, and as for a non metallic firing pin? ... well I don't know ... maybe high grade porcelain would be up to it, but I don't know enough about ceramics to achieve it.

Low velocity (sub sonics) and target velocity rounds are AFAIK solids - for accuracy.
I don't if any ammo manufacturers make low velocity hollow points, but then there's nothing stopping you drilling your own from a solid.
From my experience low velocities are piss weal - no penetration .. except for Winchester brand low velocities (only ones powerful enough to reload a semi auto) they will bounce off a 44 gallon drum, and only pierce roofing iron if up close.

When I was on the run from and at war with Comanchero MC I cut down a cheap arse Sterling M20 (.22 semi auto) fitted a shell catcher, silencer and laser sight. I kept it chambered and cocked with the safety on most of the time. I had 2 X 15 round mags for it, but so I didn,t wreck the mag springs by keeping loaded over long periods I only put 12 rounds in.

The 1st 2 were low velocities. The next 2 were target velocities. And figured if I have to use more than 4 rounds I need impact more than stealth so the rest were high velocity rounds.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
