3D printing of gun is US to be legalized
CNN says that the US will legalize printing of 3D guns at home if you have a 3D printer at home. Blueprints to be legal on the web.
How f..king stupid is this country. Plastic guns... cannot be detected.

That depends on a few things.Super Nova wrote: ↑Tue Jul 31, 2018 5:54 amCNN says that the US will legalize printing of 3D guns at home if you have a 3D printer at home. Blueprints to be legal on the web.

Glock pistols are plastic but have metal barrels. If they had porcelain barrels they'd be hidden from metal detectors.
Home made plastic guns are likely to have short lived plastic barrels, but can still be detected by X-ray, which are used at international airports.
Now a gun is no good without bullets and most bullets are brass casings with lead or steel jacketed lead projectiles.
Admittedly I have seen 12 guage rounds with all plastic shells (including the rim) and if the pellets were say glass or like in PNG rocks, they potentially could hide from metal detectors if a non metallic primer could be developed. But so far I've not seen nor ever heard of a priming cap that's not metal.
But even with all the potential hazards I tend to digress that allowing it/them is stupid on 2 grounds.
#1 Consider the advancements made on motor vehicles ... most new ideas come out of rev heads sheds, and then the auto manufacturers copy it.
Well, historically weapons including firearms have followed a similar course. For example the Owen gun (SMG) used by Ozzies in WW2 was invented by a fitter and turner on a milling machine in a coal mine near Wollongong.
The Yanks realise that as long as they allow backyarders to operate, they'll remain near thje front of the pack in weapons development.
If they prohibit it, criminals and/or rival nations will come up with something they're not ready for, or cannot regulate.
And #2 They also realise firearms like swords before them will be superseded by something created on a computer or bio-lab.
Several years ago I was complaining to a computer programmer about the poor quality of electronic devices.
He explained it's no accident. The US govt has restrictions on the materials required to make high quality electronic components, especially silicon chips. Because a chip can be designed to do virtually anything we can imagine, and that's a Pandora's box ... What if someone developed a chip more destructive that an atom bomb?
Notice how Trump won't stand upto Putin proper?
That's because his advisors have filled him in on US vulnerability to Ruski hypersonic missiles.
Whether the Ruski's reputed electromagnetic pulsed weapon that can supposedly detonate enemy nukes in their silos or on their ships is real or not I don't know, but if it is real it must work on a similar principle to the Ozzy invented Over the Horizon Radar by bouncing the beam off the ionosphere.
That Over the Horizon Radar BTW can detect stealth aircraft.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

Your average home 3d printer is not up to the task of printing hanguns, at a minimum you'd want something that could print carbon fiber reinforced, then as Yogi pointed out there will be issues regarding barrels, springs etc,,

How about a single shot or 2 barrels with a 22 hollow point.
Plastic can support this sort of gun.

from a cheap home 3d printer. one shot maybe , then there is still they issue of how would you detonate the round without a hammer or spring ?Super Nova wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 3:39 pmHow about a single shot or 2 barrels with a 22 hollow point.

OK, you have some good experience and qualifications on the topic. Excellent.BigP wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 6:07 pmJust a bit of backround Nova , the owner of the company I work for, has a firearms dealer and manufacturing licence, and I have manufactured various firearms and pieces over the years,Super Nova wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 3:39 pmHow about a single shot or 2 barrels with a 22 hollow point.

Surely you could use 3D to produce a functioning gun even if it has some limitiations over a metal one. Expert opinion appreciated

With a high end printer you could certainly produce most of the parts for a handgun, you could equally go into the shed find a piece of pipe that a shotgun cartridge slipped into and produce a far more dangerous weapon, to yourself and whom ever you pointed it at..

As a toolmaker in my old trade.
We used to make zip guns for fun
Fired . 22 bullets
Stupid stupid stupid
That was back in 1973
I wouldn't even dare contemplating thinking about the possibility of ever doing it again.
And what about what 110 psi and a copper tube and a small ball bearing can do
It's a miracle that we lived to be adults.
Oh
And now I remember the ran jet engine we made out of aluminium.
Once we got it running, we couldn't get close enough to turn it off and we were too afraid to get close to the 6 foot long flame coming out the back.
It ran for at least 5 minutes until it melted.
How did we survive???????

I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream
