I have thought about this question.

My initial instinctive response was "because we have arsehole in our DNA" but on further reflection I think.

1. Women do bad things too but they are sneakier and tend use deception, rumour and manipulation to get what they want. Teaming up in bitch fests ...etc. Not a crime by law.
2. Men have a natural disposition to use violence.

I feel this is because men have evolved to be stronger, the protector, the aggressor using force. Our instincts to tuned to fight or flight and men will chose fight more often than women. When we go bad, we are quicker to violence particularly where we have a physical advantage, an advantage a women generally (not always) doesn't have. With weapons being the equalizer, they have only been around a few 100,000 years or so and until recently needed skill and strength the weld. We have not evolved in the last 100,000 years.

Also women are tuned to be more empathetic in my opinion.

Now the modern man overrides these basics instincts as we grow up, fit into society, make use our brain over instincts. Why do boys fight, physically and girls tend to use other tactics when growign up. There is a differnce we train out of men.

So men are capable and tend to comitt the more violent crimes... well becasue we can for one and two, we have been doing it since the beginning of time. What we consider a crimes now and displicable behavour were valued in the rape and pillage days of war. providing they followed some code, were controllable by their masters and did what they did to the de-humanized enemy. The ruthless murding bastard was called a warrior. had many women and many offspring their DNA propogated. How many people on this planet have Gangess Khan in their DNA.

In summary, it's in our DNA, it's in our nature, the weak minded resort to it.
